Red Dead Redemption 2: PlayStation and Rockstar Games announce partnership

For the past 20 years, Rockstar have continually redefined the concept of open worlds. From the record breaking Grand Theft Auto series, the Midnight Club racing games, the schoolyard comedy Bully, to the breakout hit Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar have consistently delivered on a level that few have managed to match.

Now, following up Grand Theft Auto V — one of the most successful entertainment properties of all time — Rockstar is set to return with Red Dead Redemption 2, the latest entry in the Red Dead series of games. And there’s no better place to play it than PlayStation.

Hand crafted to take full advantage of PS4, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland. The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.

We are pleased to announce that PS4 players get first access to earn select online content in the vast open world of Red Dead Redemption 2. Check back on PlayStation.Blog for more details soon and for all of the latest information on Red Dead Redemption 2.

In addition, the PS3 classic Red Dead Redemption will be coming to PlayStation Now soon. Relive the epic story of former outlaw John Marston as he hunts down the gang members he once called friends through the harsh and punishing landscape of America’s dying West.

RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 RELEASE DATE POSSIBLY OUTED
An online store was a bit trigger-happy with the info, but is it real?

Leaks are one thing but when a retailer which is supposed to know its way around these things messes up your big reveal, it’s bound to sting. Rockstar’s lips have been sealed regarding the release date of Red Dead Redemption 2 – and just about everything else – but an online storefront seemingly didn’t get the memo that they’re not supposed to spill these beans just yet.

With the retail business being as competitive as it is these days, stores need to be told well in advance about the release dates for products so that they can prepare marketing, displays, shelf-space and all that jazz. Sales budgets and discounts which benefit from a given high-profile release must also be considered, meaning that retail outlets probably know a little more than we do.

Littlewoods, a British online storefront with a highly varied catalog of items, is offering pre-orders for Red Dead Redemption 2 and their RDR2 product page contains an apparent spoiler when it comes to the release date.

Purchasers pre-ordering the game via Littlewoods today will supposedly have it scheduled for delivery on October 2nd 2017, which happens to be a Monday. Funnily enough, you can select a color for the product (likely due to the site’s focus on apparel)… and the only selectable color is red, obviously.

Littlewoods isn’t exactly the go-to store for most people looking for video games, so this tidbit could have easily fallen under the radar. Also, the date could easily be a placeholder, an error, or of course the game could end up being delayed anyway.

October 2nd 2017 does of course fit within the only official information we have about the release date so far – that it will be some time during Autumn 2017. Also while 2017 is shaping up to be a very busy year for games, October seems like a good choice as no major releases are slated for that month and it would have RDR 2 beat the typically packed November.

Rockstar Games is likely to throw us a few more official breadcrumbs about Red Dead Redemption 2 soon, particularly seeing as there are less than 10 months to go before the scheduled release and all we have is one piece of promo art and a single pre-rendered trailer. Of course, it’s not like this is stopping fans from pre-ordering Red Dead Redemption 2 en-masse, but it would be great to see some actual gameplay.

So what do you think – is this a real leak, or is Littlewoods’ release date just an estimation or something else?

Would have disagreed if it wasn't for the promo art that states it's coming out in the fall. I just hope they don't have the story feature multiple protagonists and nerf the online experience like GTA V.
