I will never forget walking up copacabana beach while tanks roll by one day and the next day choppers with people hanging out carrying machine guns were flying by. shyt was wild but the locals were carrying on like it was nothing.

There is something unsettling about getting drunk during a street party, surrounded by women who are clearly whores, while people on tanks patrol the area. But that shyt sure was fun!

I wouldn't say that. It's more like there is a worst hood in America in every Brazilian city/town which translates to a lot of death and mayhem.

I've never been to Brazil, but just watching videos that get posted from there, it's obvious that there are places there that are far more lawless than anywhere in the US.

If you're actually a black man (not just for the internet) and you don't flaunt wealth everywhere you go, the likelihood of you getting held up/jacked is pretty low. Like everywhere in the world, most Brazilian murder victims are killed by people they know in fukked up areas.

When I lived there, I lived in a nice part of town. Had a few situations of constrangimento (racist intimidation tactics) by police/security people until they realized they weren't dealing with a Brazilian citizen. But fear of my own people while there? Nah, it was a great experience in that sense. I would still recommend it to other black people for a visit (not to live).

I'm a second generation Angolan I've been walking in dangerous areas in the west and even in my fathers land(Angola) wearing clothing that made me stand out and shyt ain't happened to me at all. I personally know Brazilians, family, and acquaintances that have witnessed and experienced random shyt with the natives.

But I guess you had a different experience compared to the others, it's good nothing happened to you. I wanna go but I guess hearing the experiences of others and watching TV Record once in a blue moon has put me off.

That country needs more than policing, they need a whole campaign on how precious life is.
