Kind of scary how Venezuela as a country has a murder rate that high.

Venezuela can be categorized as a civil war really.

As for Brazil the income disparity amongst the rich and the poor is huge, with non existent middle class. Rio has one of the heighest number of helicopter pads on buildings in the world. The rich travel the city in helicopters while the working class deals with crime down below. shyt is crazy.

Brazil is a society in chaos. Police are violent/corrupt and high levels of inequality continued to persist even after surging commodities prices helped boost its economy up almost 10 years ago. Now they're in a recession, so all of the social issues have been exacerbated.

The bulk of those murders are taking place in the North/Northeast.

As fukked up as things are here in the U.S., at least we have a somewhat politicized population that engages and holds institutions accountable every now and then. In Brazil people basically just accept the status quo, robberies, shootings, rape, anarchy and justify with a fatalistic "somos um pais do terceiro mundo, entao nao se pode esperar mais"-- "we're a third world country, what do you expect"

if what you say is true, it isn't a very effective genocide. the population numbers in brazil only go up and up and up every year. 10 million more people in the last 6 years alone. 64000 seems like a high number but when you consider the fact that they have over 100 million black people, it really isn't.

a state sponsored genocide would probably be some kind of chemical weapon or nuke that would cut that number in half within weeks. when you are talking about millions of people, gun violence is just too inefficient to be state sponsored.
