You only consider the stuff you don't mind hearing as being productive to this discussion. I think that you're being dishonest by not acknowledging what I initially said. This is about you being a Kobe fan salty that he'll never be viewed as being as good as Mike. It's hard to take all that "gawd" crap seriously with MJ still being fresh in people's mind. All that stuff about players being measured against MJ being detrimental to the sport is nonsense. I haven't seen any intelligent explanation for why Kobe or Lebron being compared to MJ has been detrimental to the sport. You can argue that it's been detrimental to those guys as individuals but I wouldn't even agree with that. As far as Kobe, I think that his drive to be as good or better than MJ is we big reason for why he is as good as he is. Mike gave him a goal to shoot for. As far as Lebron, I don't see how any MJ comparisons are hurting him. It's actually a compliment to both guys to even have people seriously comparing them to Mike. He is the goat, after all.

I did acknowledge what you initially said. To me it's about preference. If Kobe passes Jordan in rings and points scored I lie to you not I will claim Kobe is better than Jordan. As for everything else, just browse back through this thread to see the points made about the negatives that came from the Jordan era.

Aside from that, I agree with you. It's a compliment for LeBron and it's the driving force for Kobe's greatness to be compared with Jordan. Nevertheless, do you really think gator_king has a point and it's just a matter of letting time pass before the way people fiend for "another Jordan" finally goes away?

I can't ever say Kobe is better than Jordan simply because Jordan was that much better of a defender than Kobe.

Kobe early in his career was a beast of a defender, but as he got better offensively he stopped playing defense consistently and now he's not physically able to play elite defense.

Jordan was a lockdown defender for the majority of his career....Yeah Pippen took a lot of pressure off of him but Jordan never did that roaming shyt that Kobe has done the past 5 years.

Solid point.

But Ali isn't the undisputed greatest(I think he's the greatest), you'll hear some Boxing fans name other guys. Same with Ruth. What your really saying is it was more the image that made them the GOAT rather than the substance because quite a few of their contemporaries had the substance. The ones you named were just fortunate as fukk to be in the right situation at the right time combined with having exceptional talent.

- This topic was spurred from me watching ESPN actually. LeBron just had his best season and nikkaz couldn't wait to compare him to Jordan like damn, can the nikka just breathe and enjoy his accolades before somebody busts thru and says "Meh, that was pretty good. He's still no Jordan tho." :mjpls: At some point nikkaz is gon get tired of this shyt, personally I'm starting to think all this superteam shyt was the best thing to happen because at least now the TEAM might be more the focus as oppose to one or two players.

- Magic gets on my fukkin nerves too, he might be a Laker legend, an excellent businessman, and a beacon of continued black excellence but I never listen to a word he says. Them drugs got him on Emmitt status.

exactly. people acting like this shyt just affects Kobe. Durant, Rose, Russy, Bron, Wade. If any of those dudes have any semblance of a memorable moment, there's an army of fakkits on some "Jordan did it better" steeze :skip:

That shyt gets annoying really quick.

:wtf: I could barely watch that shyt. They were on this nikka's dikk hard as fukk. The NBA might as well renamed it "Jordan plays the Lakers"

First of all, the idea that you think that Kobe will somehow become a better player than Mike if he gets more rings and scores more points is silly. That fanboyish mentality is the biggest problems that Kobe fans have. The verdict has already been rendered my dude, Kobe isn't as good as Mike. You can stop trying to fight that battle, and deep down you realize that hence this thread. Regardless of how many more rings Kobe gets, we've already seen his at his best. Here's a jewel, rings are a team achievement not an individual one.

Yes, I think that over time Mike's shadow over the league will get smaller and smaller. Personally, I think that Lebron will be the new measuring stick when he's done. He's really the 1st undisputed best player in the league since Mike. No dis to Shaq, but they called him the MD.

Has more to do with how the media is than anything......

Players today are more harshly criticized than any other period.

Even during their time the greats were criticized, but upon winning those criticisms had to be erased.

Jordan was accused of being a ball hog early in his career (and never really changed his game, he just got better teamates).

Magic wasn't a great defender and got a coach fired.

Charles Barkley got into WAY more trouble than some players today do.

People tend to look at older players with rose colored glasses because of nostalgia.

Very true.........

I am guilty of this, but I think Jordan, Magic, Bird and Maybe a few others get a pass that they wouldn't have gotten had they played in this current era. We probably won't see another guard like Kobe for another 7-8 years at best, the era of the point-power forward with speed and ups is upon us.

But the youngins coming up will pattern their game off of Kobe, which was patterned off of MJ, but I have a neighbor and when he's out playing ball he's yelling "KOBE!" and he wasn't old enough to watch Jordan at his peak, so there is a generation coming up that will pay homage to Kobe.

But they are still buying Jordan's to ball in.

Like I said, it's all on preference. If the point of basketball is to score points, win games, and win titles, how would Kobe not be > Jordan by my logic? Cuz it took longer? Cuz a bunch of dikkridin journalists thought he wasn't a valuable player? Rings are a team achievement but you need great individual players to make it happen, so that jewel can still shine in this topic since we always bring up the 6 rings Jordan got and hang that over every other players head.

Naturally MJ's shadow will shrink, but in the process many players have been depreciated. Even LeBron. A lot of nikkaz including myself couldn't just be fans cuz his handlers wanted us to believe he was Jordan when he clearly wasn't. Oh, and Kobe was the best player in the NBA from 2001 to 2010. :youngsabo:

Yeah, to you and Kobe stans. Not to the rest of the world. That's why you made this thread. You're mad that your hero is never going to be seen the way your hero's hero will continue to be.

Is this the thread where all us nikkas under 25 come together and shyt on the GOAT because we didn't see him in his prime?

I can't get jiggy with this. He's the GOAT,deal with it.

Doesn't matter. You need to let the younger nikkas live. Let me flip it.

80's dudes hated on Biggie, Pac & Nas. They preferred Rakim, G Rap, Kane & groups like Public Enemy.

90's dudes hated on Jay, 50, Em & Kanye. They preferred Biggie, Pac, Nas, Cube & groups like Wu-Tang.

The last generation hates on Drake, Wayne & Ross now. They prefer Jay, DMX, Em & groups like DipSet or G-Unit.

After a while, them old heads start sounding bitter & begin to alienate the younger crowd. We get it. You don't like them. Now shut your old ass up :heh: Nobody saying Kobe or Bron is better than Jordan. We saying.....sit your flabby ass down & let them young nikkas live :beli:

Speaking as an 80's dude, this isn't true.

A lot of people in this world like Kobe(several billion in China) so I guess nikkaz is right Kobe is gonna be worshipped in retirement, smh so now Kobe's gonna be the one to have ESPN constantly comparing him to other nikkaz like Jordan is now? :snoop:
