I'm really astounded by the continued ignorance on this board about Atheism. Atheism is simply the lack of belief in God.....nothing more.....nothing less. Some Atheists might attempt to add more to it's definition....but that's all it is. Also Atheism isn't some European invention...hell there's an ancient school of Hindu thought that's Atheist.

How is it possible to be an Hindu (one of the oldest religion in the world) and to be an atheist ?

Prior to modern Europe there were no atheistic societies.

If you're against religion and you want to be an atheist, OK; but don't turn it into a black thing. Black people were not atheists before they met white people.

If you want to go black with your religious/spiritual experience, check what your ancestors were doing.

The first humans, who were black, had no belief in god in the start until different tribes began to worship different animals, then moved onto the sun, gods and spiritual powers. This then moved onto Africans settling into now Egypt and creating a new religion on which they worshipped dozens of gods.

it was when colonization began that most Africans became Muslims and Christians.

Talk about the size of Africa, after you used a generic term like "African Spiritual system", as proof of how ALL black ancestors practiced and interpreted religion brehs
smh. This is why religious talks lead no where. Folks get emotional, start being unnecessarily dismissive, start interpreting things and injecting points from convos they had with other people, while ignoring the points made now and not addressing any of them
Who are your ancestors?
Spirtuality does not = religion. Once again you simply hate religion, nobody can prove a creator exists nor does not exist so you hide hatred of belief under the pseudo intelligent guise of saying you dont believe in God. Atheist will say God cant be real because bad things happen to Good people. Just say you hate the concept of a Creator because nobody stopped the crappy things that happned to you from happening.

We don't know that for sure. Plus, at that stage, we can't really talk about civilization. We civilization kicked in, belief was there. And we, as black people, didn't need a white man to tell us to be believers.

Yeah, but that's not the question here. The debate is not about Christianity or Islam, it's about atheism and black people.

No atheistic societies, even among black people.

There were many of old African tribes that showed no signs of any belief in any god(s)
-certain tribes found in Africa were observed to have no identifiable cults or rites. There were no totems, no gods, no spirits. Their dead were buried without special ceremonies or accompanying items and received no further attention. They even appeared to lack simple superstitions, according to travelers' reports.
