Something nobody else is pointing out: everyone talking Black and White but don't forget Immigrants when they come into America adopt the American culture and that's the NFL.

I see a lot of Hispanics wearing Raiders, 49ers, Steelers, Cowboys, etc. attire.
A lot of Indians Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys attire.
A lot of Pacific Islanders and Asians wear 49ers and New York Giants attire.
A lot of Arabs wearing 49ers attire.
etc.

I really don't see many immigrants wearing jerseys of other sports like that. That definitely goes to show what sport runs this country.
They might even watch other sports in their country (even basketball), but the second they step foot in this country the NFL grows on them.
Like they say, "When in Rome".
I work with two people straight from India who threw punches at each other over the Seahawks and Cowboys game a few years back :mjlol: :heh:

Attending a football game feels more like attending a concert than watching a sport. There's simply that electricity in the air and a big crowd about to watch a spectacle.

I understand and I agreed with most of your statement, but the issue is this site. This site has been on that bullshyt forever. A decade plus going back to the old site you have people who want to basically make the NBA fan base all black and the NFL fan base all white which isn’t true

cause there’s plenty of Black people that live in the south, or the middle of the country where football is their religion and basketball is something that they hardly care about and reverse of that. Is it plenty of White people that live in the north east region where basketball is there major love and football would be second/third to them

This thread took the turn I expected. Cats saying it's a white folks thing when in this forum the NFL threads are more popular and fun. Folks saying ratings only matter to stans and corporations like ratings don't affect what's presented by the league and their partners. The old marketing players vs teams argument ilke Pat and Lamar and Josh Allen aren't household names and all over TV. Travis Kelce has more commercials than Bron does at this point plus the best athlete podcasts are all football cats. The NBA being more "popular across the globe", when it's not the NBA that's more popular it's the sport of basketball, and that's primarily because NFL is American based with some European pockets.

The NBA was closer when Stern was in office then Silver let the inmates run the asylum between the networks burying smaller markets and actively starting trade chatter to push players to NYC or LA AND teams openly losing and convincing their fans to cheer for it AND players deciding to treat it like AAU and stars only giving a fukk about playoffs because of hot take artists. Goodell focused on the product first and the players/owners comfort second. The games are better than they've ever been. The networks won't dare cross him the way they do with the NBA and have commentators openly discussing strategy during games and during half instead of picking fights with the stars like the TNT cats do. The players overall have made more money. The NFL is more tank proof because none of the players or coaches are fukking up their next gig for the front office/owners. The NFL actively promotes the fantasy infrastructures and have a secondary revenue stream of billions from FanDuel etc. He had a sneaky hand in getting flag football in the Olympics as a way to expand football in a realistic way globally.

To be blunt we need to watch the NBA less so they can start getting real about fixing shyt. I used to never miss games when it was about the games, but they turned the whole league into a soap opera.

Some valid points for sure but I also think you’re giving David Stern way too much credit. IMO Silver takes hits for a lot of things that started under Stern: Large market bias, media overemphasis on free agency/trade rumors, questionable officiating, superteams, media disrespecting players, ring culture, etc.

It's not about "enjoying" both, it's about appreciating the meta game at play, and how it affects the things you enjoy.
You are adopting a "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" philosophy here, just assuming that the NBA "getting" billions is good for the league... but those broadcast contracts are 2 way streets, and the "buyers" here will have a good amount of creative control.
They're essentially buying the right to package and promote "the NBA product", whatever that may be.
If the NFL is drawing 6:1 viewership numbers in the same time slot with the same level of product (regular season, minimal playoff implications), the broadcast platforms buying the NBA rights are going to want to eat into those numbers.
Advertising alone won't get that done--the fundamental nature of the product being sold will be altered in some way.
When you factor in other numbers that show the NCAA mens tournament outdraws the NBA playoffs, you start to see a picture emerging: the American consumer prefers fewer regular season games, and more playoff-level intensity games--ie, single elimination contests.
NBA is going to have to find a way to ratchet up the stakes.
Great breakdown

This is the exact reason for the IST and the Play In.

Meta-data always matters.

There’s so much stuff about the nba that turns off the non Stan it’s crazy when you start listing them. Like how does a sport not prioritize local sports fandom for one.

When non NBA Stan’s here shyt like load management and ramping up it just make you not take product seriously

Yeah y’all keep saying that like it’s not plenty of nikkas that watch football
Dog, I knew football was king when I lived in Johannesburg and a South African cat who I had dealings with would have Dallas Cowboy watch parties. Mind you, it’s a 7-8 hr time difference. The only NBA game I can recall in my almost three years living there that had people waking up in the middle of the night to watch was Kobe’s last game. shyt, they have semi pro football leagues on the continent now that’s tackle and flag International Federation of American Football - International Federation of American Football

NFL rating reports are funny cause the league has done nothing but break records but people swore up and down that their boycotts (cacs thinking that the NFL was woke, ppl boycotting Kaep getting blackballed, and folks thinking football was dying cause of concussions) were working but neither made an impact, the only reason ratings have been down in the past 10 years were due to the Elections and Covid.

People would give up their families before giving up football.

I won't fight that it started under Stern, but Silver allowed them to get out of control. Just with the media stuff alone Stern was getting somebody on the phone and cussing them out about it. Under Stern the officiating was predictably star based instead of the inconsistent mess it is now. The Morant family wouldn't have ever gotten to the point they have under Stern.

The NFL makes much more in revenue than the NBA and MLB even with them playing thousands of more games per season. MLB is second and the NFL makes 7 billion more in revenue than them.

The EPL in total only generates about 6 billion in revenue. The NFL generates almost TRIPLE that. That should give you a scale on how far the NFL is above the rest of the competition

If the NFL started making as much money as the more international sports leagues the commissioner would be fired immediately for gross negligence. :mjlol:
The NFL makes that amount because it’s a closed environment with No failure option (Relegation).

The major clubs in Europe want to do something similar now but fans (in England at least) are telling them fukk no.
