I see the nicknames you got listed OP, but we call the city the Tre or Tre-4.

Bro when you get the plug on the Winston gear let me know. I’d want a southside hoody or something with Morningside.

Man, I remember when 102 used to play our anthem on the radio. nikkas used to get hype AF throwing up them tres or fours.

I still remember as a kid when Happy Hills was popping, going to Happy Hills day for the cookouts. My grandpa would be on the grill. Hanes mall on Saturdays with my grandma.

Winston nikkas are a different breed. I used to hang out all around Cleveland, because my cousins lived over there. shyt could get rough for you if your ass got caught up in the Circle (Piedmont Circle). I was always on the south or East. I rarely was on the north side.

I don’t really consider it a city that you’d visit or vacation to. They’ve built up downtown quite a bit. It used to be really rough that way, but they’ve tried to clean it up to get the white folks out there. East Winston and it’s neighborhoods are historical black neighborhoods. They’ve been able to hold off gentrification. Those RJ Reynolds towers bring back memories. My aunty and grandpa worked there. My aunt ended up getting my cousins onto cigarettes, because she’d bring home cartons and my cousins would sneak and get into them.

I feel you on the love/hate thing. I love my city, but I’ve definitely outgrown it and wouldn’t live there now. If I’m being honest, Greensboro is the only city I’d live now. Greensboro became a home to me after attending A&T. My true grade for the city would be a 6, but me being biased, I’m going to give it a 10.

U Tre-4 nikkas knew to stay off 311

Ended up having a blowout on 311. Was tryna teach this broad from NYC how to drive, and she hit something. I was drunk as a fool, so one of her lessons was driving my drunk ass home fukked up my tire and axle, had me out on 311 in the late night/early morn. I haven’t taken that cursed hwy since. If I need to get to HP, I’ll just take the back roads through Wendover.

I used to teach ole girl how to drive and do her calculus homework (she had no business in that class ). All I asked in return was for her to wash my clothes when she washed hers and clean my apt every once in awhile lol

The Winston stories are funny. I only went three years ago to see my homegirl from DC graduate from WSSU. Seemed decent to me, not all that exciting, but I wasn't trying to seek out alota shyt there either...

I did all my time between NC and NY, mostly NC, and it's the same anywhere, you learn alot about places when you get locked up because everywhere has a reputation. Winston had no reputation on the yard, and I was in there with quite a few of them. Had a homeboy from somewhere called the 10th Street Banga Block, same homeboy been in the Feds for about 6 years now and gets out in '22...

Was on the yard with the cats who killed Chris Paul's grandfather. Other Winston cats too, but generally speaking the Tre didnt make alota noise upstate. When I went to prison I was out of Fayetteville and for sure Fayetteville, Greensboro, Charlotte, Durham, and Raleigh all had more weight in prison, and smaller cities too like Greenville, Wilmington, Lumberton, Shelby, Rocky Mount, Oxford, Goldsboro, Salisbury, these places didnt have a ton of representation but the people from there were with the issues...

So my impression of Winston was a bunch of laid back cats, very few bell ringers. Got a good story though, the worst ass whoopin I ever took in my life was given to me by a Winston nikka at Foothills...

nikka named "50", was about my size but stockier with thick forearms, really muscular, got into it on some gang beef in late February '08. Long story short, I called him out, and waited in my cell for him. I knew he was soft because I'd already seen him turn down a fade...

I'm in the cell, dude comes in, I swing and miss, and runs, like literally runs, back into the day room. So I pop out there calling him p*ssy in front of everyone and ready to shake with him, go back in the cell. Dude comes in, I pop him this time in the jaw, he hightails it out the cell again. I'm laughing, I bop back into the day room talking my shyt and the nikka gets hella upset, saying I didnt let him get all the 2at in the cell...

I'm in my zone, talking big shyt, like nikka when you cross my door you should be ready and I'm taking off. So some of the older cats on the block said to let him get in my cell first since I wouldnt let him in, which I shoulda declined because it was my gotdamn cell lol, but I agreed...

Fam is in the cell, I pop in, and he's got his hands up and asks me "are you ready?" I say "nikka fukk you", and swing on him...

To this day I don't know if I connected on him, this cat hit he with 3 or 4 punches and damn near had me out. shyt happened so fast, and listen, I faded alota cats in prison, starting taking street fights when I was 9 years old, I fought alota people at different body types, sizes, ages. Nobody in my life has ever hit me as hard as this dude did. And the shyt was fast, if we were in a ring or octagon they woulda called the fight...

It's the only fight I legit saw stars when a nikka hit me, I'll never forget it because it never happened. I swung, and the next thing I remember, dude is standing over me, I'm grabbing at his legs trying to get back to my feet. He's wrestling me and I get on my feet and start swinging wildly, one of the older cats came in and stopped the fight, and he left my cell. I had a killer headache and wasn't prepared for when I looked in my mirror, fight been over maybe 2-3 minutes, and my nose was leaking like a faucet, literally. I was so out of it I didnt even feel my nose running...

And my left eye was already starting to swell shut, turning black, and I had a lnot growing on my forehead. I was fukked up, and we had chow call right after that. Cats staring at me at the cafeteria because my knots were swelling and my eye was shutting, and I remember one of the COs pulling me asking me what happened to me. I declined to tell him, the embarrassment of nikkas smirking at me in the chow hall was crazy...

I saw one of my potna from Fayetteville and toms him to find me a banger, I was gonna kill this nikka 50 lol. Luckily he didn't listen to me, and he offered to fade 50 for me, because 18-year old me was gonna blade dude...

Get back to the block, sometime later that day, I asked for a runback, he declined, and nikkas on the block were telling me to drop it. I spent 2-3 days asking for another one with dude, the tipping point was when he called himself punking me in front of everyone one night, saying "you shoulda did what you had to do the first time"...

Eye still shut, still fukked, I remember it was March 2, 2008 cause we went up, that morning I waited for his cell to pop for breakfast call and walked upstairs to his cell, he had it cracked open. He was finishing pissing and looked surprised to me, was like "what's up J-Rock" nervously, and I went to beating this nikka ass...

Got caught, got lockbacked while everyone else went to chow and officers told us we were going to the hole, and this nikka was banging on his door threatening to kill me, telling the boys I snuck him, he was innocent because I was in his cell...

I'll tell you, i knew I was whipping him but after the fact I didnt feel all that gratified, I couldn't drop him or leak him how he did me. At that time you got 20 days on the hole for fighting, during that 20 my injuries healed, we were in different cell blocks in the hole...

On March 22 when we went to baggage claim go back to population, I saw dude for the first time in 20 days, and he was lumped up. shyt made me smile and he didnt even look me in my eye, even though I knew I beat him I didnt know I had him lumped up for 20 days. shyt felt good...

They sent us to separate units and besides a few times on the yard, I never saw dude again. I got my get back but a Winston-Salem nikka to this day boxed me up and gave me the worst L I ever took...
