Smileys are killing me breh

but I love the movie, no shame in my game at all. It's got good martial arts, good action, coherent story, and it's simple. It's a play on Enter the Dragon and works well because of it. You understand the motivations of your main three characters, what they all need from this tournament and what they all will lose if they don't win. There are high ass stakes, a good villain who's rightly chewing the scenery in certain scenes, and it has a satisfying ending that is logical based on the story and each character has their moment where they "grow up" It's a movie based on a ridiculous video game and manages to make the fantastical world it inhabits seem tangible

Man, Mortal Kombat is an entertaining flick, but in no way, shape, or form is it getting past a 7/10...I would give it a 6/10; the acting/dialogue is completely wooden, the story has more holes in it than swiss cheese, and some of the special effects are questionable...nostalgia and the great martial arts drive the greatness of this movie man

It's 10/10 for me breh, but that was also partially tongue in cheek. It's not one of the greatest flicks ever but I fukk with it hard but then it gets back to that question someone posed in the action flick thread: What do you come to a movie for? Am I coming to Mortal Kombat looking for razor sharp dialogue and awesome acting or am I going to it looking for dope fights, good characters and a good time?

And I've seen the movie several times breh so this is no diss when I ask but what holes do you speak of? I've tried looking for them and the only one I can find is when Reptile shows up, Johnny Cage magically disappears that's all I got

I typically hate romantic comedies, but the characters and script were great. JGL did his thing.

I know a lot of dudes in here didn't like the ending but I did...that was the logical outcome for his character and it was something he needed to change and a point he needed to get to only by growing up

Holes? How about the fact that this tournament even exists and Kang is a descendant of one of the greatest Kombatants ever but never knew odd the tournament before now? Now Liu Kang says towards the end that he is the decendant of Kung Lao, yet he has no idea what Mortal Kombat is?

Also, the Sonya/Kano chase scene and relationship is ridiculous...nobody seems to care that cops are chasing Kano, shooting guns left and right at the beginning; plus, there is no real backstory behind Kano and Sonya

What about Liu Kang's second challenge...all he had to do was run up the stairs and say a sentence and he got succeeded his 2nd challenge to defeat Shang Tsung

Goro: nuff said.

The Scorpion fight; so a big ass metal shield would just mysteriously be sitting in hell when Johnny and Scorpion get down there, huh? What a coincidence...

Like I said, the movie is entertaining for its nostalgia since I loved the games, but 6/10 is being generous for this movie

Ok let's do it breh :handshake:

In the beginning Liu acknowledges the tournament he even tells his uncle that it's not enough that he filled his head with that nonsense, but he had to feed it to his brother too? Raiden's info dump is simply for the audience but Liu never gives indication that he doesn't know about the 9 previous tournaments but he DOES not believe it's for the fate of the world because it's not something he ever believed in.

The challenges were simply that, facing your fear so it was something he needed to do but it's not a hole as much as it's poor execution and not being able to find a compelling way to contextualize it

Goro isn't a plot hole breh lol that's a part of the story. He's referenced, he's a champion, he's there.

And I agree with you about the cops chasing Kano in the middle of a nightclub and Sonja bringing out that shotgun, letting it off in the middle of the club and just everyone continuing to dance like it didn't happen; that's beyond silly. However, I'd argue that all the information you need on their relationship is painted when Kano shows her the knife asks her if she remembers it and he says it worked good on her partner, slicing him ear to ear. So is it deep backstory? No but it's enough for me or anyone else to understand why she wants him dead: He killed her former partner and clearly she took it personally like most people would. If you wanted it to be deeper than that, I won't argue with you but I think calling it a hole is a bit much

And as far as the shield being in Scorpion's lair..one COULD argue that since the place is filled with bones and skulls and the remains of his victims, that something like that would be down there but I go back to my initial claim: it's a movie based on a ridiculous video game where characters can "finish" the other by turning them into babies, or doing this:

First bolded: that's bad writing then.

As for Goro, I was talking about Goro just walking around like a normal dude and none of the human participants seem to mind that a 9 foot tall monster is walking around and killing people....and let's not mention his dikk sucking stans that follow him around chanting his name over and over again...

Lol all I'm saying is that the movie is fun and the nostalgia will always keep it in my heart (I even have a special place for the terrible sequel), but just from a film lover's standpoint, I have to be honest about its shortcomings

:mjlol::deadrose: that shyt is hilarious. Everytime I see it those cats make me laugh because their dikk riding is top notch and so 90s

But again not a plot hole because once you buy into the fact that there is an outworld and that other dimensions exists and that gods exists and one of them shoots out lighting from his hands and eyes, oh and that another guy collects souls, you kinda gotta go with what the story throws at you. That's like reading spider-man and not buying the fact that Sandman exists

Good point. But there's a difference between hearing about an Outworld and the legends and such and seeing a 9 foot tall monster kill your friends...and just to be clear, Cage, Kang, and Sonya were the only 3 "humans" to survive the tournament right? When they win (and travel to Earth), none of the other kombatants are around

Yeah that's something that is terrible in the flick. They should've pulled a true Enter the Dragon and had them there in the end celebrating or in Enter the Dragon, joining in the fight. There's a way to do that simply by having them around when the kids are around but Raiden told you how the movie would end right before they got to Outworld: I've looked into their souls, and yours. He told us these cats are :camby:so pay no attention to them.

7/10 - dope popcorn flick, main drawback is it was too "wordy" for the type of flick they were doing

I always thought Goro killed them all because they did a Goro montage and had his Mike Tyson TKO'ing about a dozen kombatants
