He did gamble a lot, but he was still great on the ball. It was just the type of defender he was. He wasn't running up and down the court defender, or a fast paced defender. He was a make it hard for you to get to your spot, or beat you to your spot and be physical. The Bulls dynasty could run-n-gun, but they could also slow it down and play a grinding game. Which is why at different points, Pippen or MJ would be the better defender. But the thing was could they make you play the game they wanted, in which they could have the better matchup defensively.He gambled a lot and wasn't Bruce Bowen on man to man but he was still above average on man to man defense and great off the ball. Played the passing lanes very well, was great at switching, excellent help defender him and Scottie both could just pressure the shyt out teams with their off ball movement/chemistry and he could give you rim protection from the perimeter with his explosiveness.
I don't understand this take. Few had the physical tools to do what Mike could off the ball.
