Actually I do becuase i see it as a sign of the rampant financial illiteracy in the black community

And I think rap music encourages wasteful spending, when you really think about it rap music is a how to guide on how to end up as a broke ass motherfuker

If u are wasting money because of what rappers talk about in a song, then u have issues :manny:

That's like blaming Al Pacino for flossin in Scarface. Its entertainment.

The funniest thing about this whole thread, is that most of the rappers that you’re listening to (that are talking that big money shyt), are either broke or in debt.

:lolbron:
True..

Go to TMZ on any given day and the front page it littered with foreclosures, garnishments and tax leins from Black athletes and rappers...

So maybe its time for some of them to consider "downgrading" from a Bugatti or Phantom to a BMW or Audi..

Regular people are not driving Bentleys you clown

Can u explain how someone making $30K/yr can finance a $300K car???

You have no idea what you are talking about

it doesnt matter what you drive or how much you make, those specifics are not important, what matters is what percentage of your budget you are using for transportation and what percentage of your budget is going to savings and investment

the point being even if you could afford to finance a bentley it would still be a bad idea unless the percentage of your budget going to savings and investment is huge

the issue is bigger than a bentley, black people shouldnt buy cars they can barely afford just because you can finance them, that leads to lack of savings and wealth building

Well that is simply idiotic to neglect your responsibilities in order to follow what a rapper does on tv. Back to my originial point, people should not get upset at rappers because they talk about flossin. End of story. For every thousand rappers that talk about ballin, there are another thousand rappers that don't.

Again this is not a problem exclusive to the black community. So the idea that rap is the problem is ridiculous. There are millions of Americans who hate rap that live beyond their means. The avg American lives beyond their means. It has nothing to do with rap. Rap's popularity is a symptom, not a cause. You keep trying to pigeonhole everything through the orifice of your predetermined conclusions of the world and black people and fail

If u think rap music is garbage why do u listen to it? If u are using rap music as a guide on how to be broke, then u deserve to be broke. Listenin to rappers for financial advice or usin rapper as models for spending is idiotic.

Nah he has a point

You gotta look at it like this

When Hip Hop culture is for the most part considered black culture, we as a people especially the young ones still developing their characters..when u grow up to believe that hip hop is your culture and for the most part ur not "black" if ur not listening to hip hop(btw yes this goes on)..we as a people especially those of us in single mother homes...take on these rap stars as our idols..and when u see that alot of these rappers speak about their money immaturely..we as a community get bad spending habits..and thats what causes nikkaz tryna buy 300 dollar jeans jackets every week when they still live in da hood.

And as Ive alrdy shown in this thread...Im not against braggin
But theirs a mature way to do it..then theres the immature way

Lemme quote the great Hov

"Everybody screaming they want the old Hov
But the new improved Hov hit like Albert Pujols
Everybody wanna hear me talk that money like Phil Rizzuto
But my mind is on Pluto
Bills that I do fold, I now invest on
Trying to find some loopholes in the IRS
As where I used to have a few hoes I am just
Concentrating on making a new Hov through sex
I've awakened just in time to school those putos
Trying to follow in my shoes with jewels froze
Better adhere to this text 'fore you go
Broke, spending more than you've accrued on silly baguettes
I know silly begets silly you'll learn on your own
At least my conscience is clear, I'm no longer steering you wrong
Ain't nothing wrong with baguettes after you get a home
Take care of your home, you can go back and"

This is wealth talk this is accumulating wealth talk

I agree that people follow what some rappers say, but why don't people complain about more concious rappers (Mos Def, Roots, Kweli, Common, Jean Gray etc) There are so many positive artists in hip hop that many people choose to ignore.

U think rap's problem over the last 10 years has been trying to branch our too much??? Lol, is this a joke? Rap over the last 10 years has almost exclusively targeted the birdbrain, club hopping, materalistic idiot at the expense of every othe demo, and its been counterproductive to the growth of the genre.

THIS!

Rap encourages conspicuous consumption, but so does advertising, so do movies, so does TV, so does pop music. Black people aren't and never have been the largest consumers of rap music, and most of rap's most loyal customers succeed in spite of their regular rap consumption. So this idea you are trying to perpetuate that rap encourages bad decisions is meaningless... if someone is so impressionable that they will make a bad decision because a rap song tells them to there are way bigger problems than the music they listen to

And most of black people's problems are not unique to black people, so trying to make links between general problems and factors unique to black people is idiotic. Unemployment is high for white people because of economic factors, but unemployment is high for black people because we listen to Trinidad James :aicmon:

Rap encourages conspicuous consumption,

yeah

but so does advertising, so do movies, so does TV, so does pop music.

yeah, and?

Black people aren't and never have been the largest consumers of rap music, and most of rap's most loyal customers succeed in spite of their regular rap consumption.

what?

for the fifth time, what part of im-just-talking-about-black-people dont you understand, why the fuk would i care about about the "largest consumers of rap music", im concerned about the intellectual development of the hip hop nation, im hip hop, i :pacspit: on the "largest consumers of rap music"

So this idea you are trying to perpetuate that rap encourages bad decisions is meaningless...

wait a minute, you just said that rap encourages conspicuous consumption and now you are saying that im wrong for saying rap encourages bad decisions?

do you even read what you write?

And most of black people's problems are not unique to black people, so trying to make links between general problems and factors unique to black people is idiotic. Unemployment is high for white people because of economic factors, but unemployment is high for black people because we listen to Trinidad James :aicmon:

are you smoking crack? the black unemployment rate is double that of whites, how on earth can you say black problems are not unique to black people

foh

you already pulled this stunt in trying to say the decline in rap sales was not unique and then i had to correct you and point out that the drop in rap sales is worse than the overall market
