nikka we smokin off the same pipe.Dog, advanced stats tell you a lot... and tell you a lot less in bball than anything else. I watch every minute of every game I can. I'm a fiend. And I played at a high level. KG is a Hall of Famer, I will never front on that. KG anchor a D in his prime - absolutely. KG IS NOT THE FIRST OPTION AT THE END OF GAMES UNLESS NO ONE CAN GET FREE OR THEY DESIGN A PLAY FOR A WING J. That nikka loud as fukk but quiet in the post with the game on the line... CONSISTENTLY. And for all them stats, he couldn't make a title run until he was alternating between a 2nd and 3rd option, PERIOD. That nikka is NOT in the convo with TD, at all. And he's below Dirk too. Pierce closed all those games with few exceptions, I watched all of them, and no team D stats gonna tell me a fukking thing contrary to that black ass doodoo log drifting on the perimeter in the clutch. Like a 27 inch Zenith, I seen it.
I ain't aruging if KG is the 'definitive' first option at the end of games nor I'm arguing that he's Duncan's equal either. All I'm arguing is that KG was the most important player on the Celtics this past season.
1st series (Game 6 vs Hawks - 4th quarter):
Garnett = 4 points.
Pierce = 5 points and 1 turnover.
1st series (Game 7 vs Hawks - 4th quarter):
Garnett = 8 points (last made FG in the game) and 2 blocks.
Pierce = 4 points, 1 block and 2 turnovers.
2nd series (Game 6 vs 76ers - 4th quarter):
Garnett = 8 points and 2 turnovers.
Pierce = 3 points (last made FG of the game).
2nd series (Game 7 vs 76ers - 4th quarter):
Garnett = 5 points.
Pierce: = 2 points and 1 turnover.
In the Celtics win(s) over the Heat - he averaged more 4th quarter points than Pierce did as well. And all this talk of closing games - what about the rest of the 3+ quarters, does that not hold equal-weight to the rest of the aforementioned closing-minutes? That Celtics team staggered and spluttered on the offense end all throughout the playoffs and if it wasn't for their defense (KG's impact) they wouldn't be in any position for Pierce to close games. Plus not to mention the countless amounts of times KG had to make plays on the other side of the court in the dying minutes of games too.
If you're gonna use the closer tag for Pierce, you have to use it for KG on the other end of the court too. He may not always 'bring it' on the offensive side of the ball in the closing stages, but he sure does on the defensive end.
