They get maad play on Lithium too:laugh: I dont know if Rock is the 'proper' Genre to place em(especially Primus)
Primus and Tool are both what I would consider Prog with Heavy Metal elements. I guess Progressive Metal fits them. Garbage…. Never got into them, but they definitely aren’t grunge.

Pearl Jam
Alice In Chains
Soundgarden

I got a sweet spot for STP, but gonna go with Soundgarden then AIC then Pearl Jam.

Ironically I enjoy Nirvana the least

1. Nirvana : only death really kinda separates them in general. Yet to be honest. Pearl jam has the best actual record in the whole genre with black. Maybe the rock song goat arguably.

2. Pearl jam

Nirvana and pearl jam Are the grunge bands.
From the exact genre being given an pop gateway actual name.

The other bands listed were their own thing.

.Alice in chains = Alice in chains

Sound garden = soundgarden equals sound garden

stp = the pop group that evolved to be stp. I never viewed them as grunge. I viewed them as a contemporary rock group that was current for their debut.

I like stone temple.
more than alice in chains and sound garden for their gateway appeal.
Yet people would probably say stp were biters.
When I feel all rock is biters shyt to begin with.

So the lifting of styles.
or songs is to be expected like pop lifts from everywhere.

Yet stp for my personal listening by spins.

Stp had the better pop gateway record from their debut.
While still being and having an edge.
That I listen to stp more than alice or garden easy.
Even when alice was alice.
When I think back on spinning alice.
I spun core more than both alice and garden.
Not saying weyland and company was better. Just they had better clear distinct gateways. Whereas garden and alice. You have to get transported to their thing to become rabid about them. Whereas from core. Stp just destroyed all naysayers with some of the best gateway records with edge for the era.

Alice in chains like tool had that weird ass imagery.
That for me as a black guy.
Is a bit oftputting like tool. Yet if I never saw the outputting Alice stuff. I would have never given tool a try. Which is why Alice is Alice for me. As they were the group. Where you have to challenge yourself to try sumfin out of your wheelhouse.
That did not seem.
it was in your wheelhouse.
Yet it is your wheelhouse.

Chopper axes.
Great legendary vocals and dope ass background vocal melodies and adlibs.
Rebel yells off the hook.

Yet stp is like weyland mixed all rhe best moments of that time.
As a songwriter, over incredible landscapes. I feel core is wrongly hated on.
Yet I don't think weyland is this biters biter. I just think wetland was that cold.
Like super cold.
That the critique for core.
With rock being misappropriated.

Is a bit harsh. Yet the critics for rock are white. So the whole cite this guy for plagiarism. While you ignore the other for biting.
Never made any real sense.

As literally I love kurt but kurt is the culmination of his influences.

Similar to Greenway being a complete retread of their Influences. Kurt has more edge than Greenway.
Plus content that can draw you away from suicide in big long now. As well as Pantera suicide song pt 2.

That Nirvana would more than likely. top the list of bands in that era easy.

@Art Barr @Black White Sox Hat you are needed in this discussion

Preciate the barr light signal in the sky for this thread.

I peeped the MOJO link.
With their ranking.
Which is why I had to be vocal about my opening statements.

That in close. Although they are not grunge and an import band influenced.

If you want a cold ass album. That went overlooked.

Go get that second silver chair album.

Album is holy sheit..dey snapped level crack.

That kinda gets forgotten. When people tried to write them off as teen grunge biters. Instead of peeping this group was that young and that cold. In one album. They took it next level as some teens. That if you Iooking for sumfin from that era. That is given great reviews. Just little known for that time.
That second silver chair album is cold as fukk.

Pearl Jam is my favorite band of all time but AIC had the best singer (tied with Chris) and guitarist.

I know a few people that knew Layne towards the end. They said he was DOWN BAD on the boy. No teeth, missing a finger all that, like 100 lbs.

Lowkey the only difference between Layne’s sad end and Kurt Cobain’s cemented legacy is a shotgun
I read about Layne years ago, that heroin had him in a choke hold. He started wearing long sleeves, big clothes to cover his weight loss. He stayed inside his house for weeks, basically went missing and people stopped hearing from him. At some point his band members just "let go" of him until he decided he needed help (which never came). Eventually they shut down the band and stopped touring and making appearances because they started getting questions about his health and it was a bad look overall. I heard about how when they found him he was on his sofa and had been playing Nintendo, they found him like a week later and his body was down to like 80lbs. They even said his body was glued to the sofa it had decayed so much.

Peep this video, he's barely 120lbs here:

Nirvana did not invent the genre

You can go back to Green River, Screaming Trees, Killing Joke (who they ripped off Come As You Are) or The Pixies. If you want to keep it a buck it really all started with The Stooges. Raw Power is a 20 year older version of Nevermind

Soundgarden had a record deal five, six years before Nirvana
I first heard The Stooges when I got my first fuzz pedal years ago, I was looking up albums that featured fuzz and came across their album from 1969. I was very surprised they had all the elements of alternative rock and grunge.

💯 Agree. I wanna be your dog is the blueprint

Cobain has Raw Power as his favorite album of all time

I like Nirvana, but never understood how they were so revered. A lot of their music sounds the same, and is flat out depressing to listen to. They’re top 5 for sure, but consensus number 1 in most polls like Mojo? I don’t agree with that.
