I use to be a Magic > Bird guy mainly cause Magic was black and Bird was white. However, after I started watching both their tape I came to the conclusion Bird was better. Like you said he was the better scorer, shooter, rebounder, and defender. All Magic had on him was passing and even then it was on the fast bird. In the half-court I would argue they were equivalent.

Magic was kinda wack as a player when he wasn't running the fast break. But then again he had an uncanny ability to run the fast break on every missed shot so you gotta give him credit for that.
Thier both so close you cant really put one over the other ... watch magics playoff games in 90 and 91 he could do it all

Bird also had a bad back so it was hard from him to really sit down and defend he isn’t the athlete like bron as example who can mask it and play off ball and shoot the passing lanes I don’t think bird was a bad team defender but 1 on 1 in his later years he didn’t have that lateral quickness to guard some of those younger guards and faster players

The main argument I've heard for Magic over Bird is a)beat him 2-1 in head-to-head Finals, and b)Magic was the more consistent clutch time player in the playoffs...

Didn't see them myself so all I can go on is that, because damn near anything else is a clean sweep for Bird...

I put extreme value on how you perform in the postseason. If Magic was better in big moments more often, that holds significantly more weight than a 2-1 Finals edge which could be attributed to different variables...

Magic from 1986-1991 was arguably the best player in the sport, second only to Mike and you could make the case for him over Mike. I'm not positive he peaked as high as Bird, who had an unreal three year run and Bird from 1979 to 1986 in general was the best player most of those years...

Larry def played defense...I never heard he didn't granted his offense greatly overshadowed his defense.

He wasn't athletic enough and didn't have the lateral movement to guard the other elite swing players. However, he had long arms and great anticipation so he got steals and played good help defense in his prime.

Because he had bad back problems so anybody from the 90s on up automatically assumed he was a bad defender
