The "Freedom of Movement" puts an emphasis on allowing offensive players the freedom of movement: to help offensive flow, and clamp down on defensive contact off the ball. This POE should actually favor the Warriors style of play, because very few teams in the league have as much off-ball movement as they do, yet nearly every single team is benefitting from it besides them:
Warriors lead the league in off-screen plays (17% of their total possessions; the #2 team only have 8% of their total possessions), yet they are near last in fouls drawn. If there's this emphasis on freedom of movement, why is the team who should benefit from it most, not getting the calls, and teams who run LESS off-screen plays are getting more calls in their favor on off-ball contact.
If there's this emphasis on freedom of movement, why is Steph (who arguably gets held off the ball more than any other player) only averaging 3.3 FTs a game in 37 minutes, which is around half his free-throw attempts from last season (5.9 FTs a game in 32 minutes)? The league-average free-throw attempts are 25 per game this season, which is FOUR more than last season, yet not only is Steph (and the Warriors) averaging fewer FTs than last season, but almost every other team is averaging considerably more free-throws than they did last season.
How come Steph has constantly been held, pulled, pushed off-the-ball, more than any of the player for all these years without getting a call, and yet STILL isn't getting the calls when they bring in this crackdown on "freedom of movement" that's supposed to benefit offensive players off the ball?
