I disagree with this strongly. This was more so statistical noise, largely due to randomness. When Kawhi was in the game teams happened to shoot a higher 3 point percentage and since 3 point percentage is mostly random......he's more of a victim of bad luck than anything.

Oh, I'm well aware of that article.

But here's the thing, all of the best defensive anchors' impact aren't shifted by something as flimsy as random 3-pt% (certainly not 8 points per 100p) - which is why the Spurs have managed to have a GREAT defense when he's either on the bench, or not playing at all. I'm not saying the Spurs defense is better without him, I'm just saying that the narrative around how much defensive impact he has is overblown - not on the same level as Draymond and Gobert. Which is why I said, he's a great defender, but he doesn't have the same impact, mostly because he's a specialist and not someone who anchors the defense.

Mavs should trade Barnes. I don't believe he'll get better than he already is and he can't carry that team: that's too much money for a third option at best on a semi-rebuilding team.


Trade him to New Orleans. They need a third option.
