Jim has already said not use 95% for your TM; you never go above 90%. :snoop:

Well fukk.......... that lifting ego really be dangerous out here...:francis:............. best course of action?....... up the weights by 5 lbs so my 90% will essentially be a repeat of what I did this block? or just rerun this block again since I did make "strength gains" on this one and just solidify them so the following block after the next I could do a proper 90%?........ .. . damn it.. :stopitslime:

Best course of action would be to read one of the 5/3/1 books so you know what you're doing. :usure:

Per standards, you would up the OHP and BP by 5 lbs. and the DL and SQ by 10 lbs. In any case, upping the TM wouldn't make your 95% the correct percentage (no more than 90%, depending on the 5/3/1 template being used).

TBH you're not advanced enough nor familiar with 5/3/1 enough to be hotdogging your programming. Shoehorning 5/3/1 progression on the main lifts in PHUL isn't necessary and even running 5/3/1 (as written) at your level is suboptimal.

I've read the 5/3/1 books. Read the first and the latest one. So adding the 5 lbs and 10 lbs I know what you're talking about. I think I'm over enamoured by the program cause it's the first books in which I used a real structured strength program, no bro split nonsense.

My reasoning for shoehorning it in on the main lifts was cause I didn't like the lack of a visible weight progression the way you have in each of your sets in 5/3/1.

I do remember you mentioning running 5/3/1 at my stage is suboptimal, that's why I chose PHUL. In essence I just want to be able to still get a good amount of challenging volume on the 4 main lifts. That's been my concern. Clearly full optimization of my training is the aim. Gonna have to read a bit more on PHUL to see how to program those main lifts.... ..

I grossly undsrestimated this lifting game in my earlier years.... :whew: .

Not really sure what you mean by either bolded. The biggest criticisms of 5/3/1 are that the progression is too slow and the volume is too low for all but the most experienced lifters. Three working sets per session is not a good amount of challenging volume for beginners or intermediates. Three working sets for a person pushing 3/4/5 wheels for TMs on S/B/D is a good amount of challenging volume.

Also notice that you're doing AMRAPs from 5/3/1 whereas PHUL would be closer to 5/3/1 5's Pro and not traditional 5/3/1+ sets.

As far as the lack of "visible weight progression" on PHUL, well you have 3-4 sets at 3-5 reps. The progression is self-evident for those who have been doing this a while: pick a weight. Once you're hitting the upper threshold of that set x rep scheme, increase the weight. :skip:

It's set up as a double progression with linear progression until you start to slow down and start making weekly progress (or slower).

Again, there's a reason rookies aren't supposed to be fiddling with these shyts; it's because they overthink things, can't autoregulate, and don't fully understand how to manipulate training variables. :snoop:

Enjoy your newb progress; you'll never make gains as fast as you can as a newbie again. :mjcry:

Overthinking is my MO.... :mjcry: ..... .I know the newb gains ain't gonna last so I'm trying my hardest to maximize them......fukk it... . str8 PHUL, pick some weight, and bang out. Keep it simple.

Thank you for the sage advice Jedi.

:salute:

Not sure what more u could ask for in terms of fitness youtubers.... you mentioned the whole spectrum from "thuggin"' Mike Rashid, to quirky and nerdy Obi Vincent....... Unless you lookin for some MAGA shyt and wanna ride with the Hodge twins.... :pachaha: ... .. . I also don' t see why they are "lame"... .. there's only so many ways you could talk about lifting weights... :heh:.

Been up since almost 10 last night when I went to the gym. That @Universal Koala #POWDA plus a scoop of that stepped on this morning have kept me up almost 19 hours. :merchant:
One day you and the rest will realize #powda isnt needed...hopefully before your hearts explode lol

Calisthenics day for me right now....just finished a 3 mile run...time to switch sneakers in the locker room and head back out there
