Diet question.

I'm eating pretty clean atm. Pretty much veg, meat (grilled chicken and turkey meat) fruit and water. I'll also have Alpro hazelnut milk every now and then. (I gave up dairy so it's a convenient low calorie substitute for milk)

I also have smoothies, not branded smoothies you can buy because obviously they're packed with sugar, just ones that i make myself that are usually made from two bananas, frozen berries and water (or hazelnut milk) but I just watched a video where this guy recommended staying away from smoothies because even with fresh ingredients and no additives they still pack a lot of calories and stop you dropping fat. Can anyone confirm?

This diet thing can be so confusing so many people will say different things about whats good for you and whats not.

Because I was overweight my whole life then I kept losing weight to where I am now and I cant tell if im in the range i should be or if I lost too much. I was 250 at my heaviest and the lowest I ever weighed was 125 awhile back so I never really found a balance
What are you now? How tall?

Calories in, calories out.

2 Bananas = 220 cal
1 cup of mixed berries = 80 calories
3 cups of spinach = 20 calories
1 tbsp of Peanut butter= 100 calories
Water = 0 calories

Total = 420 calories

420 calories for a bkfast smoothie is fine. Add 2 boiled eggs for more protien and your at 560 calories.

You'll be fine. The problem with the smoothies is that it's easy to pack a lot of sugar in them. Just cause you got some spinach in there doesn't mean go crazy with the milk, yogurt and fruit.

Just measure the calories and ensure your in a deficit and you're good.

You may want to sub a banana for a more fiberous fruit e.g apples, pears

In that case my smoothies would be at 300 Cal seeing as I dont add peanut butter or spinach. Thanks though man I'll look into swapping one banana with a pear.

Spinach is pretty easy to add in. Very mild flavor but nutrient dense. Kale is a little tougher to incorporate as it has a very woody texture and can be hard to mask.

My post workout smoothie is only like 225-250 cals, if I make it a breakfast smoothie it’s usually ~360 calories

Post workout
1/2 banana - 40 cals
Plain whey Protein powder - 90 cals
1/2 scoop cream flavored plant based protein/meal powder - 45 cals
Two big handfuls of spinach 10-20 cals
1 cup unsweetened almond or cashew milk 25-40 cals
Occascialy add a scoop of insoluble fiber for like 5more cals

235 cals, 26g protein

Breakfast
Do as above
2 tbs oats ~ 40 cals
1 tbs flax seed - 30cals
Other half of the banana 40 cals

~350 cals

If I’m really trying to stay full, then add 1tbs PB for another 90-100 cals
