O2 Gym Tip of the Day: Lift Heavy Things For Better Metabolism

Muscle is more metabolically active than fat, and building muscle can help increase your metabolism. This means you will burn more calories each day, even at rest. Lifting weights will also help you retain muscle and combat the drop in metabolism that can occur during weight loss. In one study, 48 overweight women were placed on a diet of 800 calories per day, along with either no exercise, aerobic exercise or resistance training. After the diet, the women who did the resistance training maintained their muscle mass, metabolism and strength. The others lost weight, but also lost muscle mass and experienced a decrease in metabolism.

BOTTOM LINE:
Lifting weights is important for building and retaining muscle. Higher amounts of muscle will result in a higher metabolism.

Got back from my 2 week holiday.

At least I got a couple runs in over my holiday. Need to get into the gym and assess where I stand.

Just might have to bush Summer 18 and just look forward to Summer 19 :francis:

One thing I miss about Nigeria and the UK is the soccer culture.

I could find consistent 9v9 soccer games every day of the week. Each game you'd run about 5-6 miles. A mix of sprints and light jogs. GOAT cardio :whew:

But now in DC I'm lucky if I can get 2 quality games per week. Anything else and you gotta pay like $100 for 6 games in a season:francis:

Went to a different gym Tues. Dropped 275 on my chest. Rib cage did its thing. Didn't actually hurt as much as you would think. And I was able to press it off me with no help.

You a Savage bruh, much respect
Had to. Put too much emphasis on my upper body in my teens and most of my twenties. A year or so ago I looked at myself in the mirror at the gym when I was changing and I didn't like how small my legs looked in comparison to my upper body so I had to change up my routine a bit.
