I think she did a good job of pointing out the valid arguments and the stuff that's more of a reach. She started with most of the stuff that's getting out over the skis, but brought it back to the underlying issues by the close. I found skepchick when she was debunking covid lies, but she's been pretty consistently good on a lot of this stuff from the skeptic but left-leaning POV so far.

She's a got a point about information and news bubbles. Also those train derailment stats are crazy.

But I think she's being way too lenient and generous with EPA and governmental response to this. They told people they can go back home but then a week later figured out there were 3 more carcinogenic chemicals released and now there's also possible water contamination.

This story is all about the consequences of deregulation and what corporations will do when allowed unfettered pursuit of profits.
I find the actions of corporations and people in power extremely similar to old world Gods. They can basically influence time, the weather, our emotions and minds, the constructs of society, all that responsibility and they just fukk off whenever accidents happen.

these corporations need to be required to maintain their infrastructure. the govt needs to be able to tell them what a reasonable acceptable minimum standard is (tracks that a train has has to wobble across ain't it) just like they can with the home that i own. i can't do things that could potentially harm my neighbors in the event of a hurricane or something. that's why my shed and greenhouse had to meet a 135mph standard and i'm inland.

That’s just going to lead to more subsidies for private businesses. The same folks calling for increased rail standards are also opposed to the government footing the bill for private corporations to profit.

so there is no way for them to maintain their property without the government footing the bill? how about the govt buying the railroads from them then and charging them usage fees.
