I never said Quebec was threatening to secede because of immigration, I said the reason it was trying to secede was becuase of language


And I think you are missing the point of people talking about Texas or Quebec seceding, it's not whether they can or will, it's that just the fact that it's brought up weakens the country as a whole

And in canada language has caused such a great division that it's not beyond the realm of possibilities of Canada breaking up, I just posted an article where there is discussion of HOW to break up canada, if it's not a serious issue why is it being discussed at the highest levels of government and why am I more up current events in Canada than Canadians? That's the thing, you're not informed about Canadian politics at all. The main secessionist party lost all of its seats the last election and it currently has no leader with a seat in Parliament. No one thinks there's a chance for another referendum anytime soon. Outside of Quebec there are no real secessionist movements.

Where in the commercial did they say people don't need to know English to live in America? U do realize a person can speak more than one language right? And one of America's greatest assets is its cultural diversity?

That's just my interpretation of it along with other things you see going on, English is a fundamental part of American culture and there is movement to change that and make America multilingual

Yeah you can speak more than language, the issue is that people are just speaking one language and it's not English

Cultural diversity is not a strength, it's a weakness, if you look at countries like Nigeria or Canada it's very obvious that cultural diversity is not a strength, it's a weakness becuase it lessens the ability for people to cooperate and govern the country

America is very peculiar compared to other countries in that it traditionally puts tremendous pressure on immigrant to assimilate and integrate, only under the peculiar circumstance where you have huge integrationist pressure does cultural diversity become a strength

But in and of itself there is no evidence that cultural diversity is a strength

Where's the proof bilingualism hinders fluency in English? Most academic studies actually show fluency in multiple languages presents a learning advantage.

The point of the commercial was to show that many Americans come from different places. It was an artistic expression by singing in other languages and I think the point got across. Being bilingual doesn't make anyone less American. Matter of fact, some of the people who founded this country were bilingual (French was the major international language). The fact that you and I are immigrants or children of immigrants (and speak another language) doesn't make us any less American.

The issue isn't bilingualism, the issue is people that don't speak English, not speaking English does make you less American
