d'angelo:ehh:

better vocals
superior musician/instrumentalist
classic songs etc...

R Kelly is no slouch though

D'Angelo is dope but I just don't see how you can think he's a better vocalist. Kelly is surreal live. And D'Angelo is a better instrumentalist but that's not Kelly's forte (he can play a mean piano though). And it's not even remotely a debate if you want to talk about classic songs, breh. Not even the most ardent D'Angelo stans, like @brownsugah, would argue that D has more universally considered classic songs.

Yes it does show off his versatility. It was a great fukking song and it's not the sultry, provocative R&B that Kells is mostly known for. I've yet to meet anyone personally that doesn't like that song. Post the better examples.

Kelly can easily make a song that could comfortably fit on a D'Angelo album. D'Angelo couldn't make a song like I'm A Flirt or Ignition or Body if his life depended on it. Like I said...he has WAAAAYYYY more range, creativity and versatility than D'Angelo.

"I'm A Flirt" is nothing more than a cool song to me. There are songs on R. like the single with Keith Murray.

I don't think either artist could successfully pull off the other's sound. Two different styles. It's like saying Mary J. Blige could do what Erykah Badu or Jill Scott does.

Had a room full of legends damn near in tears

Whitney, one of the most seminal artists of our time, died and they chose R. Kelly to sing at her funeral. Ask yourself why.

Yea...D'Angelo is dope but he ain't at that level.

Alicia Keys, Kim Burrell and a couple of others sang at the same funeral.

Kellz is a little too jokey for me breh, making songs with animal sounds and signin bout goldilocks and the three little bears. D is more cut from a classic Motown cloth

That "jokey" stuff is a small portion of his musical output. A very, very small portion.
