There are obviously many factors...the talent of the players catching the balls, and the offense as a whole, but a quarterback can sometimes put his receivers in a good position to get yards after the catch by throwing perfect balls and reading the defense properly.
Basically, it's not cut and dry either way. It's all interconnected.
the worst case ive ever witnessed was when mark sanchez threw that 10 yard post pass to santonio holmes, and santonio dam near died out there turning it into a 60-yard touchdown catch. and i think that was the game winner.
i believe it was phil simms that went out of his way to emphatically state "THAT PLAY WAS ALL MARK SANCHEZ".
