That, his defense, and the fact that O'Quinn is one of the worst defenders in the league.

He makes you pay when you try to score in the paint by giving hard fouls. That's the kind of toughness we've been lacking in the front court for a long time. K-Mart gave us that kind of toughness but he got hurt.

You couldn't be any more wrong here fam. Have you seen the stats & articles posted in this thread by me & others? Melo is having his best year defensively holding the players he guards to crazy lows. I don't remember if I posted that article or if @storyteller did but it's in this thread. The article had to do with Melo reiterating over the summer that he wanted to be held accountable for his defense this year & he's been very consistent & solid. Melo also has consistently passed the ball well this season & is actively looking for open guys & cutters; particularly KP. There's tons of articles actually praising him this season because he's doing the things he said he would do this summer.

I'm not taking any shots at you but it makes me wonder if you & the others that dapped your comment are really watching the games. I see Melo doing all of these things & my only gripe is he's struggling offensively & that has more to do with him coming back from surgery & me being impatient with his recovery.

Why does it always take me 1 trillion words just to say this? :why: Great post.

Why would KD come here? We are still a few pieces away from even being a legit playoff team.
:francis:

Batum, Conley, Whiteside (though i like RoLo) should be the targets because they aren't on legit contenders anyway and NY needs high level roleplayers to fill in pieces around its two scorers (whose skill set work together) in Melo and KP.

You got to see it the way a player would see it. If and I mean If the knicks make it to the playoffs they are still a struggle team in need of overall talent. We got more than 1 hole that needs to be filled and were a system over talent team.

I really wanna see how that Whiteside situation is gonna play out with Miami, the got enough to give him the max he'll want, but last I heard he was disgruntled over touches. This free agency class isn't that great, but Whiteside is the guy I'm hoping for the most.

Well If it was to actually happen
Kd would erase most of the holes on the team
With his presence ,scoring and Versatility

Hes the most prolific efficient scorer since jordan (outside of when currys hot)

It would really help melo and porz offensively also
At that point you would jus need cheap shooters and defenders around them

I think rondo is a more realistic option

And 'Melo would help KD. Who's gonna set all those screens KD needs to be efficient? That's why he gets punked by defenders half his size like Tony Allen and CP3, because they fight over screens and don't let him get out and run. He'll have 'Melo to distract defenses like he has Chuckbrook, which is the other reason for his efficiency. He can't even shoot above 43% without Chuckbrook on his team. Another problem is he's a big man with feet problems.

I like that about him, and his rebounding, and I love his shooting. I'm just concerned because O'Quinn dropping people isn't enough because people still shoot well against him and NY can't score, so they need defense. And O'Quinn won't shoot, just like Jose. I hate that. I won't lie though, I still want him to play 35 mins a night, but I understand why he isn't.

That, his defense, and the fact that O'Quinn is one of the worst defenders in the league. NY has to rely on their defense because they can't score right now.

I been trying to find a site that'll give me his defense metrics at PF and C, because I thought his defense was pretty strong early in the season but he can't keep up with PF's without fouling. It's been tough to track him with his limited minutes though so I'm speculating hard.

How the Knicks' switch-happy defensive scheme vs. Dallas blew up in their faces

I absolutely HATE switching on defense. Especially during the D'Antoni/Woodson era. We got torched the last several seasons doing this & I have no clue why we did it so much against the Mavs.

Perhaps the most annoying facet of this defense, at least when the Knicks play it, is that half the players aren't sure who they're supposed to be guarding on any given possession, which leads to stuff like this:

The Knicks have performed fairly well on defense specifically because they haven't tried to get creative. Their bigs sag deep into the paint and protect the rim, and their athletically-challenged guards usually make an effort to run opponents off the three-point line. They've played about as well as could be expected with the talent at hand.

So please, Derek Fisher, no more exotic defensive game plans. It didn't work against Dallas, and it won't work in the near future.

It's always been a novice coaching strategy. Switching never works in the NBA unless you have the personnel to pull it off. Great defensive teams almost never switch... they help, recover, and rotate, because switching causes mismatches and the NBA is all about capitalizing on the best matchup.

The one consistent exception to the rule has been the Warriors. But again, they have a lot of players who can guard multiple positions whereas most teams don't.
