Explain how that's someone that can grow with Kristaps if you're eventually going to have to replace your C, with a PF? Your rationale is to sign a washed up C, because he'll be coming off the bench 3 years from now? That doesn't even make sense, because he's not being paid like someone that will be coming off the bench. And his injury history and the questions surrounding his body aren't "3 to 4 years" from now, who knows how much longer he'll be able to start.

I didn't understand your first question. The rest of the post is ignoring my point that if you sign a Biyombo, then he would be our starting center and KP would remain our power forward. Noah's contract is terrible, but all of the question marks are fine because they allow us to work Porzingis into the center position instead of throwing him into the fire. This was as much a development move as it was a move to help us win now.

Knicks striking that balance between developing for the future and winning in the present :ohhh:

Edit:. I realized that you probably read this and are fine with Porzingis being our starting power forward because the starting lineup would be better now. My response to that is:. A developed 7'3 center who can shoot and defend >>>>> Biyombo. Then we can move Melo to the 4 and have an even better team then what we could have potentially had otherwise

Ok... My point is that he's arguably better than a healthy Noah...and it is debatable to even say that. A healthy Noah is still a better offensive player because of his excellent passing and a great defender.

You didn't say anything wrong in this post. Noah was still the better option even with the bad contract he's getting. The fact is Biyombo only fits on this team defensively. Offensively, Noah isn't required to be near the basket to be effective due to his great passing ability. Secondly, Biyombo being a young starting center next to KP means you've decided to permanently halt his growth as a center. The reason Lopez was a great signing was because he allowed us to see KP at center when he wasn't playing well, or when we didn't have a great matchup. You get Biyombo he'll get most of the minutes at center regardless of who's on the court. Noah allows us to build our future while still being competitive AND without giving up too much defensively. I don't like contract, but the move makes sense if you're trying to build KP as our future center
Noah hasn't been fully healthy in two years, it's hard to say how good he'll be when he's healthy, all I can go on is how he's looked while he was on the court the past two years, and he honestly looked washed. If he ends up fully healthy and looks like his old self, I'll gladly admit I'm wrong, but an often injured 31 year old returning to prime form is rare.

He don't need to be prime Noah. He just needs to be healthy enough to play, show the same defense that he's shown the past two years and pass well. If he can stop the downward trend of his fg% then that's just icing on the cake but it's not a necessity, he's our last offensive option on the court

I didn't have any expectations for him with Lopez :russ: There were better & younger centers on the market some of which could defend PF's in the future.

On pure speculation here, I think they're gonna try to turn Willy Hernangomez into the front court long term partner. The release of Galloway was specifically to keep cap space available that could be used on a 3 year contract, which means they essentially want to lock up his bird rights and they already have built in chemistry (Phil's begun to show a pattern of getting players who already have rapport or previous experience together). I have no clue how that'll work out, haven't seen enough of the kid to make my own judgements and I was really high on Biyombo but just looking at the way they were willing to drop Galloway's QO just to lock-up Bird rights; it seems like the long term plans are based on this cat.

I really hate how people on here act as if Porzingis needs any other player to grow. NOAH honestly makes more sense than Melo/Lopez ever did just because of his heart on the court. Overall I do think it's a bit overrated. Karl-Anthony Towns was not going to need KG to thrive on the Timberwolves...he was going to be a monster because of his work ethic and skills...having KG there is just a bonus.

If Porzingis is going to be the franchise player some of you think he will be, it will NOT be because of ball hog melo, rose or noah. It will be on him. None of those players are good enough to make things much easier for him to reach it either. Carmelo's game doesn't translate to someone who can help another big thrive. He isn't LeBron James.

Rose? We will see how it goes, but he has the best chance to get him in great positions to score because of his passing ability.

Brandon Jennings is a good signing, but he is clearly a score first PG trying to secure a longer deal in the future.

Quick correction here, Galloway wasn't released... The Knicks just rescinded their qualifying offer to him. Knicks still have his early bird rights and he could still be a member of this team

We still have a little bit of cap room I think. Anybody else we can get?

:lupe:

Is.... Is this even possible brehs?!?

Edit: Looked up his contract. We'd essentially have to sign and trade Gallo to a 3 mil deal and throw in KOQ. Ariza has 2 years $14 mill on his contract left.
