What is Grant and Gallo getting better gonna do for last night and the rest of the season? They're gonna get torched until they get better. And how can you get "worse" than getting beaten? You either get beaten or you don't.
Grant and Gallo getting better is gonna do nothing for last night. For the rest of the season it's going to make the team as a whole better defensively. You can't have two guards who are just allowing defensive breakdowns every time on defense and hope to be a winning basketball team. At the very least, them improving defensively (while at the same time already being better defensively) than the currently starting tandem will cut down on a lot of breakdowns and allow KP and Lopez to be more comfortable defensively. Lopez a lot of times looks completely overwhelmed by having to watch both his man and Calderon's. Kristaps ALREADY is more comfortable with the younger tandem because they can break down opposing offenses and give him easier looks...something Calderon and Vujacic aren't doing.

People don't get healthier and more experienced as the year goes on?

Healthier and more experienced isn't the same as fixed. KP will not shoot above 40% and be big enough to handle his opponents by years end. He might be better than he is at the moment, but he won't be fixed this season. And I didn't know we were still going with this "he's still hurt" narrative. :comeon: There are rooks out there ballin' right now (see Karl-Anthony Towns) and katz in this thread are caping and handing out passes like KP is one of them. KP is no Dame Trillard (who balled in his rookie year) or Mudiay. He's shooting like Tim Hardaway Jr.

That's my point. There are rooks out there ballin' right now (see Karl-Anthony Towns) and katz in this thread are caping and handing out passes like KP is one of them. KP is no Dame Trillard (who balled in his rookie year) or Mudiay. He's shooting like Tim Hardaway Jr. :dead:

Well :francis:

Obviously there was a lot of nervousness, may I say pressure of having another good game? :jbhmm:

We had a lot of shots and lay-ups that didn't fall, defense lapses etc :yeshrug:Plus Hawks came to play :ehh:

But in spurts we also showed good energy, not all the time tho :patrice:

Oh well, it's a process. :manny:

Do I sense some talking about KP? First game at home, he was stressed but tried to get himself going like the rest, give em a break :beli:

Long season :francis:

GO NY GO NY GO:damn:

None of those fixable issues will be fixed this year. So, where do we go from here?

You do what's best for the team over the next 5 years, you let rookies play through mistakes while still having them learn from veterans... and you accept the fact that this team probably isn't going to make the playoffs this year, but that doesn't make this year lost.

You have to realize the connotations that go behind each and every one of those statements. Porzingis is a rook....he has a potential to get better or worse....but from what we've seen he most likely will get better. Melo is hurt/recovering/tired....we KNOW what he can do if he recovers. These are acceptable things. We just have to be patient and hope for the best. What is there to hope for behind Jose and Sasha? You can't wait for them to get younger, and unfortunately there's no real evidence that Jose will ever get back to playing well enough offensively. So yeah, when we're dropping these criticisms, there's a skew more for players that we can expect to get better than for those to get worse. And there's nothing wrong with that.

In conclusion, yes everyone played poorly...this discussion is about who we can expect to improve on their own with time, and who we shouldn't expect to. I don't expect Calderon nor Sasha to improve. At least with Sasha, he has an energy that will allow him to get minutes. Calderon was brought here for two reasons and he's not doing either one of those things...It's getting very difficult to explain him PLAYING let alone starting. As far as Porzingis, it HAS to just be wait and see. And I'm not for chopping his minutes nor bringing him off the bench (unless Calderon is glued to the starting role all season) when historically, Euro players who get consistent minutes their rookie season are more likely to have good seasons. While all intuition points to the contrary, we HAVE to throw him to the wolves to see what we have.

How is shooting nearly 45% from the field and 46% from 3 in the preseason not well enough? Are you really judging him from phantom and touch fouls being called on him in Milwaukee, causing him to be on the bench for most of the game in bogus foul trouble, disturbing his rhythm, and shooting poorly last night in a back-to-back when everyone shot poorly because it was a back-to-back?

KP, Gallo, and Grant can develop all they want. That doesn't mean you throw them in bad match-ups in the meantime. You will watch the losses pile up. They did not, I repeat, did not, defend better than Jose and Sasha last night. Not playing Jose and Sasha at the same time, I get, but benching Jose would be crazy. He can shoot, pass, rebound, keep his turnovers low, lead, and knows the Triangle.

Yall need to not let a non-knicks fan come in this thread and troll you guys into making obvious statements. If someone doesn't understand that:

. A rookie gets minutes, not just for what they'll do today but for what they could be doing next year and the year after that and for their career as they develop.

. 2 games into a season, you don't really know a damned thing about how good players will be long term. Mudiay had 17 points on 13 attempts and 11 TO's in his ONE game...that's ballin' now? But KP ain't ballin' when he puts up 16 points on 11 attempts. That's the one game comparison you can get, since Mudiay "balled" for one damned game.

. KP was matched with an allstar from last season and that all star only managed 11 points last night

Then they're either a troll or stupid. Don't give the dude the respect or acknowledgement. If you're gonna quote him, hit the :manny: and move on. But stop feeding the trolls, we got better things to discuss than trying to explain simple basketball concepts to somebody.

Listen, I was on the anti-Porzingis bandwagon when he got drafted, but you're being a bit ridiculous right now. You're trying to dog him after 2 GAMES :what:
