I mean you aren't all that wrong but I don't see what he's doing as much more performative than Freddie Gibbs or Rick Ross for example. He's playing a character at this point. To whatever extent he lived the coke dealing life, everyone knows that shyt is way way in the past. and yeah, i love me some good coke rap, but this dude is also a multi-millionaire with a wife and kids - it feels so performative at this point, especially since there isn't a significant increase in quality either lol
push should be in a much larger conversation than he is today, but he is way too comfortable and it shows. dude will still release music and i'm happy for everybody who rocks with him but he's also kinda done as an artist imo
I may be alone on this, but to me there was a step up in quality. I really tried to get into his solo music and aside from a handful of joints on every project, I never really rocked with a while Push album until Daytona. Admittedly, Daytona was only 7 joints, but I thought he hit all 7 of them out of the park, and I thought the production was really unique and interesting.
