In terms of brutality I cant even lie and put that dirt on Spains name like it was on the same level as France and England. Portugal was worse than Spain. The Spanish had a process (I forgot what its called now but Ill get it later) where an enslaved person had the right to sue the plantation owner for damages if they were beaten too harshly lol Imagine some shyt like that in the Deep South
There was also something called coartacion where a slave could buy their own freedom, like an indentured servant basically.
