the point is that Sony's lead continues to grow in the one area that MS figured they'd have locked up. Natella gonna sell off xbox....watch....

there is no goal post moving. ultimately businesses do business to make money. nothing else really matters in the grand scheme of things. would they like to be the #1 selling brand? probably. if they make money does it really matter if they're number 1 or 2? not really. Bill Gates was the beat Sony by any means necessary guy. Bill isn't running the company anymore.

In reality Microsoft has almost no chance at beating Sony because globally Xbox isn't the brand Playstation is. can they stay close? yeah, within striking distance. but Microsoft to beat Sony needs Sony to fukk up rather than anything they themselves do. I was the guy when many of the posters back in Dec 2006 were clowning the PS3 I was saying that when the generation was over Sony would finish ahead of Microsoft with the PS3. Courtdog can attest to that because we constantly argued about it on SOHH. Sony fukked up bad with the PS3 but in the end their brand strength alone brought them back when the price became competitive. They never did catch up in the US but it didn't matter.

When the generation is over I'd wager that the sales between the consoles will be fairly close. under 7-8 million difference in a pool of over 200 million customers.

the PS2 was weaker than an Xbox and a Gamecube. the question still remains did you enjoy the system any less? did you avoid buying games on it because it was weaker hardware?

That is VERY optimistic...Sony has gained the U.S. back. I think its going to outsell the xbox by at least 25 million this generation.

We are less then a year in and the gap is already about 4 million. They are being outsold every month. At this rate theyre going to be 30 million behind at the end of the gen.





And no it going on sale in egypt is not going to help them. Theyve launched in the places they sell. Theirs a reason they are so far behind in releasing in countries, they know its a lost cause.

But you cant just look at it like they are making x amount per unit. You have to take into account things like the $400 million nfl Deal, all the games they develop,the hundreds of millions they spend on advertising and all the money hatting of things like cod and bf they do.

I know you probably think you want this but let me tell you. If the Xbox folds up and goes away Sony is gonna rampage. They'll be the Comcast of gaming and everyone will hate them because there won't be competition to keep them honest. Last time Sony dominated the marketplace the $600 PS3 happened because the attitude was fukk it we own this market we can do whatever we want now. If Microsoft wasn't there to keep them honest shyt would have been uglier that it was. Likewise Sony themselves has put research into anti-used game patents.

what if there was no company to run to? what if there was only one big dog and whatever they said went? that's the kinda future you're asking when you pray for Xbox's downfall. let's not pretend like Xbox Live didn't influence PSN because PSN was a response to Xbox Live. I'm sure we all remember the dark ages of PS2 online gameplay. having to buy an adapter just to go online for example while every Xbox easily went online to a unified network.

We need all these companies to be successful. praying for the downfall of one of them is praying for the ruination of console gaming. Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft have all gotten big heads at one time or another and the market always had the option to defect to a different brand in response.

the divisions you claim are posting huge losses aren't posting losses at all but profits. and the division you claim was wrapped up in the same division to mask those losses is reported separately so it isn't masking any losses at all.

I disagree. Failure is a part of business and nobody should be immune from it.

Microsoft put themselves in this position by gambling with a loyal audience to their relatively small following compared to Sony and Nintendo.
