I understand it's about getting every penny possible but PS5 sales of all these games will dwarf the PS4 versions. I'd like to see a real cost breakdown of how much extra they get for making the old gen versions.

I mean HZD and gow each did 15+ mill in sales, their wont even be 15 million ps5’s on the market by the time HFW drops
There’s a case to be made from them having long legs if they were current gen only like miles morales but that could be the case regardless like miles morales

It'll have legs because most people who don't have PS5s will just wait until they do before buying it. People will want the best version.

it would be ironic if all the sales for every cross gen 1st party they release is dominated on ps5 like spiderman mm while they make minimal money on the ps4. they would realize they wasted the potential of these titles for no reason because we are not getting another horizon and gow until 2025/2026 at the earliest. If they do something dumb like make Spiderman 2 cross gen then they are wasting the first few years of the console on a strategy that will blow up in their face

That's what'll happen, imo. People have been starving for new systems and new experiences. Vast majority of people who are into games will just wait until they get their hands on the next (current) gen versions.

that's what frustrates the hell out of me. people don't just want pretty graphics and fast loading with the SAME exact scope of gameplay from the generation before. now we will have huge titles, horizon and gow, made cross gen for money w/ their potential severely diminished. no matter how crazy GOW looks and it will probably have the most next gen gameplay out of any title we have seen besides maybe R&C, we will always know a studio like Santa Monica could have gone to unimaginable levels if they were allowed to push the PS5 as far as they want.

Horizon Forbidden West still has weird graphical transitions related to supporting the prior generation.

The way they handle LOD or their Shadow Maps seems to be a relic from Ps4 support.
Does it look bad ? NO but in time these effects WILL show their age IMO.
I think there will come a time that we look back at these cross generational games and see a Night/Day difference
vs. "True" current gen games.

Kinda like ACIV vs. AC Valhalla or Far Cry 3/4 vs. Far Cry 5.

The new graphical capabilities of Ps5/Series X/S will eventually show their hand and express WHY we went
to a new generation.
