So now MVP determines who the best player is, huh?

It doesn't determine it by itself, but no one who is "clearly" the best player in the league is going to finish that far behind the pack. There were good arguments for Kobe being the best player in the NBA that year, but other players had arguments too.

Nash was MVP. Bron finished 2nd in the MVP race, had better #'s than Kobe in everything other than PPG, took a shytty squad to more wins, played better in the playoffs and went deeper there. Dirk finished 3rd in MVP voting and made the Finals (voted MVP the next year). Wade had better numbers than Kobe in everything other than PPG, balled out in the playoffs especially the Finals and won a title.

A lot of people are going to say Kobe was the best player in 2006, including many of his fellow players. Other people are going to have other choices. The poll is already showing that it wasn't clear, otherwise you wouldn't have a substantial # disagreeing.

Also, the fact that anyone still wants to make an entire thread about this in 2024 is :dead:

The NBA playoffs are going on right now. The discussion was a tiny sidenote in a Luka thread, in response to someone who claimed, "The best player in the league has never been disputable since Magic/Bird", where he claimed that there are ALWAYS been an undisputed best player in the NBA every year since the 1980s. The Kobe line was buried in a far longer response about Shaq/Duncan being rivals at the top for years.

Why the fukk did y'all want to turn that into another tired thread where we have the same argument we've rehashed on here 100x? :skip:

This is why I have no respect for Bron stans.

If you follow their posts on here, every thing they do is try to tear down greatness of other players and achievements. They don't want any other greatness to be acknowledged other than Bron. They try to undermine literally everything in basketball to fit their narrative, right down to underrating Bron's team mates, and overrating other GOATs team mates.

They do this with Jordan, Kobe, Wilt, Magic, 90s basketball, and immediately start shytting on current players who look like threats to Bron's winning

It's such a miserable view of basketball. Everything filtered through one basketball player. They ain't even basketball fans, they're Bron fans. It's disgusting :scust:

If you haven’t peeped game dudes whole purpose is to discredit anybody compared to lebron

Dude said Michael jordan coming off missing 64 games his 2nd season in the nba & 3rd year jordan was “in his prime” so his agenda of jordan was swept in his prime could rock
He has Jordan as the GOAT, breh:dead:.

And MJ practically entered the league as a finished product, so saying he reached his prime by year 2-3 isn't an outlandish take.

He wasn't like LeBron where he entered into the league as a pretty whack defender and an inconsistent shooter. He sharpened up his defense a little, crispened up his middy, and the rest is history.

The year he finished 4th in MVP voting and got eliminated in the first round? :comeon:

PPG-obsessed casuals literally look at one thing in the box score and ignore every other aspect of the game.
This is such a weak argument man. I honestly expected better from you. Outside of Kobe and Lamar that 06 roster was straight garbage. Those players wouldn't have gotten rotation minutes on any other team. We all know how the media used to vote for the MVP. The media favored the best player on one of the best teams. Nash won the MVP. You're honestly going to say Nash was the best player that year? Billups finished 5th in MVP voting. Was he top 5 that year?

Such a garbage post from you man.
