Having the ability to collect/compare data is not the same as actually spying.

Lets take it out of the digital space. The police have the ABILITY to collect/compare any physical data in the country. They have rules and regulations to follow. If they break those rules then it is the individual police officer at fault, not the entire precinct.

But the NSA is actually spying

In a report by Glenn Greenwald, the paper published an order from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (or FISC) that directs Verizon to provide “on an ongoing daily basis” all call records for any call “wholly within the United States, including local telephone calls” and any call made “between the United States and abroad.”

Once again having access to data =/= spying

Not only do they have access to the data, they store and collect it and create databases. Secretly collecting data on millions of innocent Americans is spying.

The other half of your post is just a complete lie :pachaha:

The government's been in bed with the entire telecommunications industry since the 40's. They've infected everything. They can get into your bank statements, your computer files, e-mail, listen to your phone calls. Every wire, every airwaves. The more technology you use, the easier it is for them to keep tabs on you

No spying is spying. Collecting data is collecting data

scenario: intelligence gathers information of suspected terrorism. These terrorists primary communication is yahoo email. How can the goverment pursue or convict these people of crimes if they don't have access to the data?
