Prism is a program that allows the gov to search/compare databases/records. It is not a database within itself.
Also it's not even directed at American citizens.
So again I ask do you have proof of a "domestic spying program"
Having the ability to collect/compare data is not the same as actually spying.
Lets take it out of the digital space. The police have the ABILITY to collect/compare any physical data in the country. They have rules and regulations to follow. If they break those rules then it is the individual police officer at fault, not the entire precinct.

Once again having access to data =/= spying
Without these programs the data would be lost forever, so then how could the goverment pursue criminals who use the American digital infastructure to plan/commit crimes against our people?

scenario: intelligence gathers information of suspected terrorism. These terrorists primary communication is yahoo email. How can the goverment pursue or convict these people of crimes if they don't have access to the data?
