most of the violence is gang related. gangs feed off the street market ie. drugs, prostitution, stolen goods

hire more cops
mandatory curfews for teens under 18 at 9pm
enforce stop and frisk throughout city
fine all parents of kids who do not attend school $100 dollars a day without a valid excuse or doctors note
from pre-k to 12th grade enforce school uniforms in all public schools

you can't have peace without war :yeshrug:
Take away welfare benefits by months if they don't attended school

Random Roadside checkpoints throughout the south side. If someblacks don't like it, too bad.

He should just say two words, "drone strikes", drop the mic, and walk away from the podium. Nothing else will get thru to them knuckleheads.

How will it not change anythiing? :mindblown:

If you are fixing laws to have stop loose gun shows and laws around certain states to make the nation better on a federal level.........how will that not change anything?

:mindblown:

Folks need to stop with that its a cultural issue.........

Its multiple issues all together; No one ever said it was just one thing. We are just trying to focus on the main thing.

But hwo is not reforming the states surrounding Illinois on a federal level. not gonna fix anything if alot of these guns are out of state?

If the House/Senate are both working on Bipartisan bills now to make gun trafficking a felony(no it isn't a felony already). how will that "not fix anything"

I agree with you actually, im surprised gun trafficking isnt a felony :whoa: I agree with all your suggestions, but I honestly dont feel like this would even put a dent in the gun deaths in chicago though.

the availability of guns is only part of the problem. the vast majority of these gun deaths in chicago are gang and or drug related. we need to look at the big picture. there will always be crooked cops, corrupt military, or suburban kids selling guns to gangsters. my homeboy who grew up in china , told me the gangsters there make their own guns from scratch.

I really feel the gang and drug culture is the biggest issue that needs to be addressed. thats why i said "cultural" problem, we glorify selling drugs and being a gangster so much. I fell victim to it myself, I was so busy selling drugs in high school I didnt have time for anything else. I bought into the image that was sold to me.

I read a study where 99% of people with PhD's never get arrested. If people wanted to be lawyers or doctors 99% of this shyt wouldnt exist. Seriously, ask some inner city high school gang members what they want to be when they grow up. THATS THE PROBLEM.

but part of that "cultural problem" is we sell AR-15's at Walmart

The WalMarts in my area don't even sell shot guns yet the city I work in has an alarming per capita murder rate.
No matter what legislation is put through to quell the sales of specific guns by retialers and gun show vendord it won't make a dent in the murders that occur in the hood because none of those people are buying their guns from traditional sellers. And just getting rid of automatic weapons means jack shyt when the majority of the shooting that happen are being carrie dout with hand guns.
SO ignoring the reason why a young black male sees shooting another human being to death to be no big deal is a much bigger issue to me than instituting some new legislation to make gun ownership more difficult for people who are far less likely to use their guns to kill other people.

I didn't say criminals get their guns directly from Walmart. I brought up Walmart as an example of the ease of access in general. this ease of access leads to tons of guns in the public's hands, and that leads to many of those guns making it into criminals' hands

"automatic weapons" aren't really part of the discussion. they've been banned since the National Firearms Act

tell that to the people that think Obama's wasting his time by trying to talk to people. like I said earlier, yall just setting him up with this "damned if he does/doesn't" shyt

My issue is that aside from the brief platitudes from everybody involved in this situation that mental health should be looked at in addition to new gun laws, the conversation has reverted to the "new laws will solve the gun violence problem" echo chamber.
Most of the new laws won't do jack to stop the inner city gun violence (that gets glossed over in the gun control debate) or even to stop the next mentally damaged individual that decides to start shooting at people.

YEP BUT UNFORTUNATELY THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN BECAUSE CAPITALISM NEEDS A PERMANENT UNDERCLASS TO SURVIVE :manny:
:manny:

someone has to work low paying laborious jobs for significant portion of the day...

Unless society gives the go ahead to create an influx of robots that carry mundane task, for jobs that most humans find degrading :manny:

I actually considered going into robotics or engineering for this at one point. :ld:
