So screen rant is reporting Hasbro is developing a sequel and not a reboot :blessed:
But it didn't make any money. Is there precedent for a sequel to a disappointing box office, but decent film having a great box office?
The first probably lost lion gate some money and the trajectory is not good.

But hey I'm all in for the rise of the green ranger... and potentially a wild force/light speed rescue/ ninja storm series.

TBH IN SPACE and LOST GALAXY was probably the most cinematic series, ripe for adaption.

Yeah man home video can put a thing over the top:

Austin powers, Batman begins, and the matrix are the biggest historical examples I can think of. None of them set the box office on fire but became huge on home video. Batman begins underperformed but because it killed on video and was critically adored we got the dark knight.

The story said Hasbro is working with a studio and didn’t say lionsgate specifically so I’m not sure if they’re still involved.

Batman Begins brought in $375 million worldwide from a $150 million budget.

Compare this to Power Rangers:

$142 million worldwide, on a $100 million budget.

Thing is, you usually take half the production budget and add that onto the full production budget to account for marketing costs. So if you do this, Batman was still profitable, but Power Rangers actually lost money.

It wasn't a very good super hero film for a few reasons:

1) They didn't spend any time in their suits, as actual power rangers until the end of the film.
2) The colors of the suits and the zords were too bland. You need to make them distinct so they're captivating to look at.
3) The acting from the teenagers was pretty bad, and the actress that played Rita was miss cast.

So basically you have a bunch of boring characters, who are poorly acted, who don't do power rangers shyt until the end of the film...not a good idea.

The most interesting part of the film was the first minute or so when you see Brian Cranston as the red ranger, makes you want to see more of that. Then the film is just boring for the rest of the way.

I highly doubt it gets a sequel, a reboot several years down the line is most likely.

Breh I’m telling you that Warner bros said it underperformed for them and wasn’t an immediate green light. If you want to quibble that holla at them lol. It only made 375. We’ve been over this. You’re not factoring in how much of that goes to the theaters and how much of it goes to the studio.

For a movie that costs 150 to make BEFORE you factor in marketing,
It’s gotta make more than 300 mill worldwide to turn a true profit. If the movie costs 150 you’re spending at least that much on marketing by rule. So that’s 300 mill total. Meaning that movie needs to make 600 mill worldwide for you to even think about your money back.

Maybe toy sales were good.

Still haven't watched this, even though I'm a huge Power Rangers fan.

If it weren't for the Boom Studios comics I would have completely lost interest in this franchise.
