If you read what i said, the pivot wouldn't be a full pivot. Like I said he would pivot in a way that doesn't make him unelectable while keeping the Trumpism ideas popular. During the primary he would be just as unbearable as everyone else because they are fighting for the GOP base. You would think with his record that he wouldn't be able to pivot, but voters are stupid and don't pay attention. Thats why GOP politicians are able to be idiots during the primary, be presentable during the general election and get elected.
No matter how much Dems may give Independents/moderates a history lesson to show that the person is extreme, voters will be more likely to vote on their current campaign stances and proposals. Not what their record was as a Governor or during the primary. Plus, those voters will have interest in DeSantis by default because most of them will have it in their mind that Biden is too old to be re-elected. In a Trump vs Biden rematch, that goes away because Trump is only 2 or 3 years younger and tried to end Democracy.

it is true that biden's only real appeal is his ability to keep trump out of office. the problem for republicans is that desantis is trump enough to freak people out and convince them to vote against him. republicans would need a radically different kind of candidate to lull voters back to sleep so they can win. somebody with tim scott's record but more swag and a girlfriend.

That’s the inconvenient truth to the he’s just “going to pivot to the center and pick up trump to Biden voters.”
That being he has to win a primary that’s carried by extremists. Then if he does win, he has to get those voters who only came out for Trump to want to vote for the centrist.
