How long have you used the macbook pro?
had it for about a year and a half now.

It's a matter of opinion, but Logic Pro is better than FL Studio. I just stopped using FL for good and am now using Logic Pro exclusively with my MPC Touch.

I don't even like using Windows anymore after I switched to mac

Im thinking of getting a mac, but just trying to do as much research as possible. What do you feel makes it better?

Im thinking of getting a mac, but just trying to do as much research as possible. What do you feel makes it better?

The overall feel of the operating system, some advances over Windows, such as being able to Text and Call people straight from my laptop (only works if you have an iPhone). Exclusive Apps such as Logic Pro (this one was a deal breaker for me, because I've always wanted to use this DAW for the longest). Free Lifetime Operating System Upgrades (Windows charges every time they release a new OS, as well as for upgrades; mac lets you upgrade for free). Being able to "airdrop" (share files and transfer files) between my laptop and iphone wirelessly. Saves me a lot of time.

Those are only a few of the things I can think of off the top of my head, but there are a lot more features which make it better.

Why do you think Logic Pro is better?

Just some preferences I have. I feel that sampling is easier for me in Logic because I can directly time stretch a portion of a sample by amount of bars and bpm. (Example, taking a 60bpm 6bar loop and time stretching it to 80bpm and 8bars. I feel like in Fl Studio it was more of a guessing game and more trouble.) I really like to time stretch samples after I chop them and sequence them, so Logic is very easy on that. I can take a 4 bar sample I sequenced at its original sample bpm, and load it in logic and stretch it to the bpm I want to use for the beat.

I've taken 60bpm samples and made it 100bpm without even having to change the pitch of the sample.

I like how in Logic everything is structured from the beginning as soon as you start working on a beat. In FL you have patterns and if you keep adding onto the patterns, you would have to duplicate patterns in order to make unique changes or make new individual patterns.

Logic Pro is easier on Mixing and Mastering, can be heavily compared to Pro Tools.

Not sure if this makes any sense, but Logic Pro feels more professional, where as FL Studio feels like a toy. Don't get me wrong I've used FL for a long time, but it just feels like its more for a drawing board, where you put out your ideas, not really for the finished product (mastered version). Where as in Logic you get the complete package, you map out your beat ideas, and at the same time structure and mix and master it.

Another benefit is the included instrument library, Logic gives you some very realistic instrument audio units (audio units are the mac version of windows vsts). FL had some very generic "cheap" sounding ones.

I think the only benefit FL has over all other DAWS is the drum sequencer, that helps out a lot with those trap beats. But its not too hard to use the one in Logic, and if you use a hardware drumming sequencer such as a MPC or Maschine, then you're good to go

Alright, i never liked the time-stretching in FL neither.
You just have to guess what you do with the percentages. Not very helpful. That's why i hardly time-stretch in my beats.

The text and calling from phone thing is a feature that is nicely built into iphone but ive been texting from my computer since 2003. if you have verizon you can download an app on a pc or android tablet that allows you to text. it brings all your messages with you seemlessly. we cant phones at work for privacy reasons mainly they dont want to chance us taking pictures of client data but on my laptop im still texting all day/night while people are sneaking off into closets and peeking into their purses.

As far as airdropping files, to your phone once again thats a phone issue. Although its not standard depending on your device you should be able to do it. I have blackberry 10 and i can view the files on my device and transfer them and with folders i specifically mark as shared I can access them via wifi/internet from my phone.

I like logic, I dual booted on a much nicer laptop before and I used apple exclusively for 60 days. When I wanted to browse the internet, check email, watch videos, download songs and movies I ran through maybe snow leopard..i cant remember what the os was called. It was nice, I know how to use a cpu so it wasnt like "oh my this is instantly easier" I tried using them together and just migrated back to using windows.

i keep it simple, got a macbook pro with FL 12, and a MPK2 Mini to make beats on the go.

when working on joints at home, i have an older 27" imac, with FL 11 and 12, and i use the same MPK controller. I record vocals using the Focusrite 2i2 joint and a small mic preamp/compressor that runs through the focusrite

Gibson Les Paul studio, black.

Fender mustang III V2 amp.

MacBook Pro to hook up to fender fuse for effects and presets.

Also, I'm terrible. Just bought the setup to fukk around with for fun. We'll see what happens.

I've been growing the gear stable over the last couple years.

Picked up a Gibson SG 60s tribute. Just took it in and had the pickups, circuit board and pots changed out to support coil splitting. I can get way more sounds of it now. It's a great time. Also grabbed a Gibson SGJ (basically, I picked up the affordable USA made gibsons before they raised the prices).

Sold the solid state fender, and have picked up an orange tiny terror tube head and a Marshall DSL 15 head. Run them through an orange 1x12 cab, and have picked up a few overdrive/fuzz pedals.

Also, my kid started playing bass, so I got a Mexican fender p bass and a GK bass amp. I'm going to teach myself enough to goof off with the bass a little bit.

I'm still not any good. But what I play now sometimes sounds like music.

(I realize no one really cares about my guitar rig. But it's fun to post about gear)

guitars are gear. I have an electric and an electric acoustic. I play, well I used to I havent really picked up up in a while, i'll pick'em up and retune them but its been years since i spent hours playing or even sampled some playing. I used to have cats come through who played heavily and we'd put songs together live.

Since last year (see my earlier post in this thread from last year) I've made some changes in my equipment and software that I use, and would like to make some corrections to the previous posts I've made.

Last time, I said I was using Logic Pro; I've since moved on from it and switched to Pro Tools (as my audio engineering job requires it at the music studio I'm working at).

I was also using a macbook for music production and post audio production; I've also moved on from that.

I am majoring in IT in college so I built a custom PC with maxed out specs for music production and post audio production.

Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler
ASRock Z270 Killer SLI/ac ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (1 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
DIYPC Solo-T1-R ATX Mid Tower Case
600W Power Supply
4TB HDD
Windows 10

(I built this custom PC with $700 - I'm not a gamer so I didn't buy a graphics card)

That shyt runs like a beast, real fast. I am once again using FL Studio for music production, I'm on the new one FL Studio 12, and I use it with the Akai MPC Touch. I'm mixing and mastering my beats on Presonus Studio One 3.

I've switched back to FL Studio because Logic is not available on Windows, and since I am familiar with it, I can quickly get my ideas out in 15-30minutes flat, then arrange structure, and export for mixing and mastering in Presonus Studio One.

I don't face any lag or audio latency when using this, and I have yet to overload my CPU in any beat project or mix and master project. I use a shytload of plugins, for beats I might use anywhere between 15-30 instances of various vsts. And for mixing and mastering, I'm looking at anywhere between 30-80 mixing and mastering plugins in total (including my master effects, and bus and send effects).

I can load many instances of cpu/ram intensive vsts and it will not slow down my projects.

My equipment includes:

2 KRK Rokit 8 Studio Monitors
Insignia 4K Ultra HD (as my monitor)
Akai MPC Touch (will soon upgrade to the MPC X)
Akai MPK61
Scarlett Focusrite 2i2
Custom PC

My Go to VSTs for making beats are:

Omnisphere
Keyscape
Trillian
Trilogy
Nexus
Sylenth
Vanguard
Dune
Rob Papen Plugins (all of them)
Dimension Pro
Circle
Cakewalk
Zebra2
Hypersonic
Native Instruments Komplete

My Go to Vsts for mixing and mastering / post audio production are:

Waves Complete (specifically: Maserati Vx1, SSLComp, SSLEQ, Rverb, Soundshifter, Rbass, Rvox, H-Delay)
Nomad Factory Complete Bundle (specifically: Liquid Delays II)
FabFilter Bundle
Slate Digital Complete Bundle (specifically: Virtual Mix Rack, FG-X)
Antares Auto-Tune 8
Melodyne
Vocalign

If any of you brehs got the money to build a custom pc similar to the one I built, def do it, its worth the money, and you will be quickly motivated to make beats or mix and master. I've been really inspired to get a lot done ever since I've spent the money to build this.

I was at the point where my macbook was not utilizing enough ram or cpu power for my projects, and it kept slowing me down; I would feel unmotivated to work. (I was working with 8gb ddr3 ram 1600mhz, and a 2.6ghz duo core intel i5)

All of that has changed since then.

I made this masterpiece with fellow crew member @Chubbs on this new setup:

I'm finally getting all of my stuff back together. In the process of building a new workstation using AMD Ryzen 1700X (AMD back :ohlawd:)

DAW - Ensoniq Paris/Reaper
Audio Interface - Ensoniq Paris (2 EDS1000, MEC with input card, 2 C-16s, and Interface 2)/
Sequencer - MPC Studio Black (truth is, this was an impulse buy last week. Guitar Center had a brand new Studio listed as used for $199 and I copped that joint with the quickness)
Sampler - Akai S3200XL
Sound Module - Roland XV5080/Emulator X3

Honestly, I'm waiting on registering the Studio until I know what the are going to do with 2.0. Read the X and Live are getting pushed back again. :snoop:
