At the risk of embarrassing myself... how do I get this type of hairstyle? Whenever I grow it out my hair never looks like this, I just get a mini fro (if I don't pic it out then it just stays matted down and that's not a good look).

Nudred works but also if you keep your hair conditioned and wash and go you can achieve simlilar results. You also shouldn't use a comb, i never use a comb for the past 5 months - just finger comb it.

I do have 'nu dred' type product but i've found other method to achieve different styles.

smh you guys just make shyt so difficult lol... Literally all these nikkas do to get their hair nappy is NOTHING. All you do is wake up, rub some water in your hair, maybe put some moisturizer and styler and head out. I had this fade style like from fall 2012 till 2014 and its all about just training your hair to have those little spirals in em. Over the course of months the rubbing in circle trains your hair to remain in those spirals (just like training your hair to wave).
