It's a DAMN shame him and Martin and other leaders were gunned down (JFK, John Lennon) because we seem to have a lack of voice in the artistic department in ALL areas and genres. That's why I switched my own style up to only talk about real topics.

Malcolm X, MLK and John Lennon all spoke out against the oppression of the underclass.

JFK was Irish so he understood it also and they all got gunned down before the great change.

Now the new generation is living under similar oppression, not much has really changed outside technology.

To be honest, I actually feel the same way. I've become kinda disinterested with hip-hop lately ever since The Mike Brown killing and I'm 23.

Maybe its not the rappers job to speak out openly and maybe I shouldn't care because the killing didn't have nothing to do with hip-hop, but we are in a desperate need of a musical backdrop of whats going on right now. We need a Public Enemy, a NWA, 2Pac or Ice Cube in the mainstream that'll give us some raw aggressive energy. Props to J Cole, Dizzy Wright, Killer Mike, Common, Talib, Game and others i'm forgetting for doing what they can to shed somelight.
First... you probably became disinterested in hip hop now adays because the the skill it takes to become a respected MC has fell off a fukking cliff.

What would Tupac have done? Honestly? Speak words that will only rile up the idiots, the non intended target audience

Would love for the CACs who post here to chime in (interesting to see how you guys feel)

In the wake of what happened to Mike Brown (Eric Garner) and still digesting the aftermath of Trayvon Martin the allure of hip hop as beginning to disinterest me.

I'm 31 and for the first time in my adult life I'm completely conscious/aware of the impact the images in the art have on the world. The youth movement that used to promote partying and strategic rebellion has devolved into a brainless animalistic genre that perpetuaes sterotypes.

Over and over and over

Is anyone else feeling a little jaded post Mike Brown?

What you are saying is true, but at the same time you on a forum with a bunch of idiots saying "I can't listen to _______________________________________he don't bust his gun, he ain't plugged in like that. He ain't a real D-Boy" and other nonsensical ramblings.

I'm currently researching the prison system and the correlation between the system and the cable networks

As we slowly move the disscussion forward I'm wondering if we as a consumer (more so my fellow Africans) can detach from a genre we have no control in.

Everyone is screaming the same thing..

Well what do you listen to? The underground is better? Maybe we should change our image?

No sir. Maybe we should see hip hop for what it is now. If it's a tool being used by gatekeepers/enlightened ones to maintain the status quo it doesn't matter if the end users try and change it.. They don't have any power to change it...

Start a new genre. Unlike the hip hop forefathers who had no idea how big hip hop would be we can start something fresh and lay a foundation that will be extremely hard to infiltrate.

We're a very resillant people. We've survived everything our enemy has thrown at us. We don't own hip hop. We can't save something we don't own.

I'm really challenging all of you to follow me..

Think outside the box

Do the words always need to rhyme?

Do we always need 3 sixteen bar verses?

Forgot an abundance of solo acts we can bring groups back.

Why can't the production sound like Yeezus meets Mannie Fresh & J.Dilla.

BET doesn't even show anything "negative". BET was more "negative" when it was black owned. Blaming Viacom for what BET is just stupid. Bob Johnson canceled BET's Informative programming because it was too costly and he wasn't getting anything on his investments. MTV is basically as non black as you can get at the moment. Again the fukk that got to do with "nikkas being nikkas"? VH-1 has "Love & Hip Hop" & "Basketball Wives" it's not exactly "positive" but it's not really contributing to the prison industry.

You the people have the power to change, but you don't want to. you want to blame the man for holding you back, but you're not even trying to move forward.

Maaaan I felt jaded about hip-hop when I first consciously digested conscious rap back in 04' when I just turned 21. I just sorta switched up my music. Started checking for more underground and classics from the 80's and 90's. But to be honest I don't even check for this era aside from a handful of artists. I'm glad some artists spoke out and made songs on this situation. But to be honest some of it comes off forced as hell. Where's the outcry? Pac, Public Enemy etc wouldn't let that ride. I know n1ggas gonna go back to them shoot em up records. I can't take half these n1ggas serious at all.

If you read my post two pages back I was asked what I'm currently doing to be the change I want to see.. I answered with how I'm involved in my hood after work during my free time. You can go back and read if you like

I also state over and over again that this.. This just came full circle for me post Mike Brown.

Who brought up BET & MTV?

I would love the challenge of reversing 30 years of negative images being projected across the nation and around the world.

I would love to create something fun and rebellious that's rooted in truth and moves people. Something that's intellectual and not anti-intellect.

So Bob Johnson tried and sold out? That's his problem. I'm talking about where we are now.

You don't even know what you're arguing. Some clown said Viacom owns prisons or some shyt that's why BET, MTV suck. That's malarkey. They may own prisons but BET/MTV ain't doing shyt to help the prison industry.

That clown wasn't me.

I said I'm researching that now so I can find out if his claim was accurate. Please go back and make sure you understand who you're responding to fam..

But you are investigating based on that claim. What is so anti black about MTV, BET & VH-1? You tell me. What on those channels contributes to the destruction of society? Most of these c*nts claim to not even watch that channel or listen to the radio.
