What specific rules where changed tho? Specifically in 04' which is what everyone talks about.

These were the rule changes of that year

"Due to several incidents during the 2003 NFL season, officials are authorized to penalize excessive celebration. The 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty will be marked off from the spot at the end of the previous play or, after a score, on the ensuing kickoff. If the infraction is ruled flagrant by the officials, the player can be ejected"

-In addition to the numbers 80–89, wide receivers will now be allowed to use numbers 10-19.

-A punt or missed field goal that is untouched by the receiving team is immediately dead once it touches either the end zone or any member of the kicking team in the end zone. Previously, a punt or missed field goal that lands in the end zone before being controlled by the kicking team could be picked up by a member of the receiving team and immediately run the other way.

-Teams will be awarded a third instant replay challenge if their first two are successful. Previously, teams were only limited to two regardless of what occurred during the game.

They changed nothing to help out offensive passing. There is a difference between changing the rules and enforcing the rules. The rules were already there(1978)

:snoop: May respond to this later. You gotta be born in the late 80s at best

You gotta be kidding me. You really believe this?

Jesus H. Christ.

Riddle me this. What good is a "rule" if its understood that it will not be enforced. How effective is that?

Singletary thought the QB position was no more important than any other position on the team. He got fired for that very reason.

QB has always been important but in today's pass happy league, he's even more important. However, the QB's value is far more important on a one dimensional or poor team. You can have a game manager on a team that has a solid D, running game, etc and be successful. Game manager on a team with a poor defense and running game...you'll be drafting a franchise QB in the draft cuz you won't be winning too many games.

Falcons better get their running game in order cuz they won't be successful in the playoffs with Ryan throwing 50 passes a game.

but that is what happened?

there was an explosion in offense in the 1980s because of the '78 rule changes. It even carried into the 90s. Really no one had an issue with pass defense calls until the Colts started to cry about it.

If the refs had done their job in that AFCCG with the Colts and the Pats then everything would be straight.

It was more of a ref problem than a rule problem.

****.... idk
:russ:

we have a better runningback, a better o line, better WRs at this point

better dline

we have a better Dline period no question.

i think the combo of jackson/richardson is better than bush n thomas but thats debatable cuz bush has better numbers than jackson

you do have a better online on paper we've given up 15 sacks uve given up 8 but weve played great pass rushing defenses each weak...

and with amendola out on paper ur wrs are better but id still take our wrs on the field.

and our level of competition has been higher playing basically 5 top teams but we'll see next week :lolbron:

Of course Coaching is going to make a difference
but ON THE FIELD.....the it starts with the QB

no it starts with the head coach everywhere ... but i guess the 9ers went from 6-10 to 13-3 with majority of the same players for no reason when they hired harbaugh :comeon:

your dline allows 120 yards or so per game, ours 60

Wake's better than Long but you do have Quinn on the other side which probably makes your pass rush better

but our interior line shyts on yours

wake isnt better than long he hasnt dont anything all year untill he faced Az terrible oline long is just as good as rusher imo hes better and hes better at the run. and yea idk much aout ur DTs but once brockers gets settled down as a rookie he and langford will dominate and we'll have the best dline in the nfl

ur Run D looks to be tops in the league but the only team u played that has a good running game is houston... we played redskins bears and seahawks whos intent going into the game is running it all day long. but then on the other hand ur pass D is :flabbynsick: and ours is the best in the league

should be a good game tho
