You guys do know that American wrestling is a racist carny white trash "sport" right? I don't know why anyone expects progression out of a TV show that white people write, white people fund, and white people control.

HHH went over Booker T clean as a whistle while berating his race. Not to mention the blackface DX vs the Nation feud

The chairman lost his hair in a match and then all of a sudden started walking around in a du rag mocking black people.

The biggest wrestling star ever (not movie star Dwayne) Hulk Hogan is a bonafide "she better not bring a Ni--er home unless he's rich" :mjpls:

Now, I as a black man love wrestling. But its rooted audience is kids and Americans who watch NASCAR. This question is like asking "why hasn't there been a black captain on Star Trek" (please don't kill me if there has been... I have no clue :snoop: :mjlol:)
This is why I wonder why doesn't someone with money like a Wale just give us the alternative already. Especially in the digital era.

The higher up the card you get, the less likely it is a black person gets opportunity. They associated the absolute top of the card with being the 'face' of the brand and they dont want black faces defining the brand.

Rock considered himself Black until he realized it would hinder his ability for growth as far as his career was concerned.

We know this based on that one interview he had when he did in fact consider himself "Black"

I guess where I'm getting lost in this discussion is with the points that people are making about Booker T vs. Triple H AND the Jinder Mahal run.

I definitely don't condone the HHH/Booker T result, but I'm confused about whether Booker T beating Trips at Mania 19 would make a difference in this discussion. Everyone's been making the point about a black person never being the WWE champion.

Wouldn't beating Triple H at Mania just have made Booker another black man that's held the Big Gold in WWE, but NOT the "main title". If I recall correctly, the main event title match for that Mania was Lesnar/Angle.

Also, if the Big Gold or whatever heavyweight title they are using as a "secondary" top title doesn't matter, then how can we use Jinder Mahal as a comparison?

The title Jinder Mahal is holding right now would be equivalent to the title that Mark Henry and Booker held since it would not main-event a dual-brand PPV like SummerSlam or Mania. Bray would also fall out of the discussion.

...so if we are talking about the here and now, we should be wanting a black wrestler to hold the Universal Title, so that they'd headline a PPV, which would currently rule Kofi & Big E (who I see as the more viable candidate of the two) out since they're on Smackdown Live at the moment.

As far as guys that could/should have been champion, I've got to personally disagree with R-Truth. Of all the overlooked names mentioned, Lashley and Booker are the only guys I could have seen as THE guy.

A title called the "Universal Title" that looks like melted fruit roll-ups will never be a top title regardless of how much they try to push it.

As far as the Big Gold/WWE Titles, they were fairly on equal footing until possibly 2006/07, so the idea of people wanting Booker to win it at WM 19 isn't a stretch as far as importance goes. It was still HHH that had the title and that's all that matters.

Regardless of how it looks, the Universal title is the marquee title in the WWE...unless you honestly believe Jinder Mahal defending the title would be booked higher on the card than :brawk: at SummerSlam. The belts may change, but the placement of the one management considers the "top" title stays the same.

Yes, Triple H had the belt...but his match was considered an undercard match to Angle/Lesnar (the main event). It even had McMahon/Hogan and Austin/Rock go on before it. If we want a black wrestler with the top belt, we want him to have the one that main events Mania.

WM 19 was a highly stacked Mania, and a low-key GOAT Mania. Pretty much agree with the rest of that, but I think if the Universoul Circus title was truly the marquee title, they wouldn't continue to send the WWE title to people/teams everytime they when a championship. It just lets people know what they want you to think, vs what's actually for real.
