This would have never happened to a white person. The police would have handled their business in a respectable manner and called it a day.

Do we have to be more careful as black men in America and cross our Ts and dot our Is? Yes.

But the victim blaming for the excess, anything that happened beyond issuing a citation (or whatever the law requires) is some bullshyt.

As far as the license, like you and a couple other posters said, how would you know it's expired? So its really a catch 22 situation in your case

What happened after the events in the video?

I go to court for two obstruction of justice charges tomorrow. One for pleading with them not to arrest my wife and one for not opening my door and coming out of the van.

Whether what OP did is illegal or not, as usual, the police response is WAY out of proportion and they didn't even have the humanity to respond to someone who was being calm and with his family in a clearly distressing situation. At least if you'll insist he gets out of the car, find a way to ensure the rest of his family will be safe. Their demeanour suggested they didn't give a fukk and wanted a reason for conflict.

I live in the UK, so I don't know the severity of your infringement but no illegality concerning a damn CAR should justify their response.

I was calm until they began to arrest my wife for something i know was routine. I then begged them not to arrest her. I never left my van and never threatened them. I was charged with obstruction of justice for protesting against her arrest from 20 yards away and for not submitting to my arrest without charge.

They put them in separate cars and held them at the facility until my wife was bailed out.

the mistake you made was expecting police to be compassionate or considerate. you begging for their kindness was like blood in the water. at some point you're better off accepting the situation, keeping your kids calm to reduce the trauma, and avoiding getting killed. this ain't new for 2020.

it's easy to say what we would have done in hindsight, but it is important to discuss it. might help another breh avoid a similar situation or something even more tragic.

Definately, it is a dangerous situation that I will not go through again. Since it happened, I wanted to post it so that people can fully grasp, from one of their own, how captive we really are as a people. It is a stark reality to understand and physically substantiate that we are a captive people. It is also not an easy thing to post this material and be public about it, but I do accept the criticism.

I struggled with whether or not to post it, legal issues aside, but I believe this is what activism is. I am one of the blessed ones that escaped with my life and would like to share that. As well as a warning. Will update after court tomorrow.
