Underrated movie

It made me re-examine life and was clearly made for adults

and the realistic jazz scenes and accurate portrayal of NY

a great watch

My mom watched it first and told me that she thought it was for adults. I still watched with my kids. I enjoyed it a lot. Kids did as well. Really good movie.

Beautiful film. Watched it last night on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. I may be bias as this film spoke to some things relevant to my situation and felt like it was directly talking to me at times.

Like many people I thought they they were gonna spend most the movie in the beyond world but I'd say about 60% of the story took place on Earth. So I was pleased with that, especially the representation of Black people and some the more positive aspects of our culture. (Music tradition, Barbershop culture)

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought this was a family friendly movie for adults. All I could think about was how I want my 10yr old sister to watch it but I'm not sure she'd be able to fully appreciate it. It wasn't surprising that the same people who made Inside Out(which I loved too) was behind this film as I took my sister to that movie years ago and it went over her head back then I think.

Fantastic movie. I'd recommend it to people of all ages and cultures, although I think adults familiar with Black culture will more likely get the maximum amount of enjoyment possible.

Watched this recently, I liked it a lot. Felt like the ending was a little rushed but they got the message across. The animation quality was fire, especially watching on a 4k tv off a blunt :wow:
bruh me and my boys were :wow: at the animation. Literally multiple times during the movie we all were like "goddamn that looks amazing". Blunted and henny'd out. I was stounded to learn Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross did the score, though it makes complete sense afterwards.

My son absolutely loves this movie. He watches it almost everyday and has really took to the jazz scenes.

I actually got him listening to some classic jazz like Coltrane. Well be out in public and hell hear music and say things like I wonder if Joe Garner would like this.

:russ: I actually felt like this pixar movie was way less sad than other ones they've came out with. I found this much more humorous in nature. I'll never forget getting blunted and going to see "Up" and tearing up within 10min

At some point there needs to be a conversation about how this is precisely the kind of ingrained social pressure the film is warning us about.

People watch this film and they feel let down because they do not see where Joe ends up. We as a people are taught to judge a person by his achievements. Joe either needs to add value to society as a teacher or Joe must become widely acknowledged for his piano skills.

Both these things however reduce playing piano to a means, not the end. And Joe could quite possible lose his joy of playing piano if he did it only as a means to an end, rather than do it for the joy of playing. Joe was losing sight of that and might have become a lost soul who would get stuck brainlessly playing piano as a job (whether as a teacher or as part of the band) if he didn't realize there's more to life than that. For instance, enjoying something as simple as everyday conversation with his barber.

My problem is that this man died twice and came back to life three times to play the piano, but in the end, he decided to just enjoy life which seems so dumb after he fought so hard earlier to achieve his goals.:mindblown:
Let's not forget that this man wanted to be a musician for his entire life(s). Let's also not forget that his mom can't retire because she can't depend on him and he depends on her.
His mom was also proud of him for getting his teaching gig and when he performed on stage. So the least he could do is take either job to finally stop being an emotional and physical burden on his mom.
I wanted to see the mom bragging about her son by the end of the movie.:obama:

There is nothing wrong with being happy, but there are still bills and family to take care of. The ending of the movie was wholly unrealistic.:hubie:
Getting bored of playing the piano doesn't matter. There are plenty of Nurses, Doctors, teachers, etc., that don't like their jobs but keep them regardless because they have a duty to their families.
And you can't fault me for being disappointed after I became just as invested in his dream as he was only for him to throw it away at the end and become aimless.:unimpressed:
