Outside of Shved the rest could and should back for a minimum unless a team gives them a better offer.

I guess the knicks will wait to the 8th so they can be confirmed to have 4.5 mil in space before they make another move. That cap space exception should be good enough to get shved and if he was smart he would stay to try to earn a bigger contract.

Yes, I'd start Porzingis over Williams, if Kristaps has trouble I pull him out the game early, if he has it going and locked in defensively I keep him out there. You start him and give him 20-24mpg at PF exclusively, his body is not ready to play the 5 in the NBA, even against backups. He's more likely to play center coming off the bench, where as if he's in the starting lineup he's playing PF next to a big center.
So Melo at the 3?:patrice::lupe:

Or bring Melo off the bench :lolbron::shaq:

how the fukk do you pay 10 million guaranteed over two years to someone who's worth the minimum :deadmanny:

Williams sucks, he's terrible. I would understand the deal if it was a team option after the first year, but a player option :heh:

like he's going to opt out of 5 mill after sucking for another year. mind boggling

Melo should be the starting 4.

I think that Derrick Williams/Melo combination makes sense because both can guard 3's and 4's. Not sure if Melo will start guarding SF's or PF's but he'll still be our high post target regardless and teams will have to choose whether to stick a PF on him to stop him bullying from post ups or to keep the SF on him. The problem with having the PF guard Williams is that he shoots a solid percentage from each corner and in the triangle that'll be his main location on the floor, so PF's would be dragged from the rim and forced to chase him as he sets down screens, comes through screens, etc. On defense, you make it much easier to switch on everything when you have interchangeable 1/2 (and Afflalo can hold his own on SF's too) and 3/4 to go with a mobile, defensive C. It's a really versatile set up for these guys and Williams was coming into his own once he got to Sactown, so if he continues developing, that could mean a nice player to have but I doubt he's more than a one year addition. 5 million is gonna be chump change as the cap increases and if he can increase his Kings production even slightly, he'll be a 25 year old former 2nd pick in the draft showing signs of coming into his own while every team in the league will have money to blow.

I'm still overall very postive on what the knicks have done (and more importantly, not done) so far this offseason... but there's no way anyone is convincing me that Derrick Williams is a good pick up...

I think your right. Phil mentioned a specific type of Center that would let Melo play PF and RoLo is that exact type. Putting Melo next too another tweener could make it even harder on teams trying to match personnel. Derrick Williams isn't consistent but for those 10 - 20 games a season he shows up the knicks could give front courts nightmares.

I expect the knicks to use forward combos of D Will/Melo and KP/Melo on the floor as a way to have options of going small ball or Big front court in games. Derrick Williams is bad but if the D Will/Melo experiment works even half decently I could see the knicks going after Wilson Chandler (2 way player) or MKG (defensive monster) in 2016 and the team being a lot better for it.

I'd love MKG but I don't think the Hornets let him walk. A Hornet I could see available next offseason that might work is Marvin Williams. Dude should be cheap and has the do it all skillset to be a nice complimentary piece.

true, but his development has been shytty as fukk. He started to get better for the wolves then Adelman went there and just benched him, and he started to put it together again at the end of the season is Sacramento. You got to look at him as a Hardaway at the forward position and the knicks are the hawks hoping he'll be better in NY because he fits the triangle as a slasher/corner 3 role.

Marvin Williams is just another tweener but older. Your right about MKG possibly being matched but the Hornets don't know what the fukk their doing these days and MJ is a cheap fukk.

Derek Williams huh? Where are Hasheem Thabeet and Michael Beasley at? Lets just snatch up 2nd overall draft busts and hope one turns the corner.

:deadmanny: Accurate AF. You got a point for sure, and I'd love that if it was possible. I categorize Marvin and Wilson as similarly tweeners with a diverse skillset but nothing elite...just solid all around guys. I'd prefer Marvin though because Wilson's health has been in an issue in the past.
