Idk how I feel about that JR for Copeland + Watson talk.

I forget who it was (I think Chris Herring of the WSJ on Twitter) who said why it's important for Melo and the Knicks to have a player like JR - "when the triangle isn't working//you can't get a good look, at least you have a guy like JR who can create his own shot. Who else has that ability outside of Melo currently?"

And not for nothing - JR has looked composed/not making overly stupid decisions thus far.

Zen Master motivating JR not to be a bum :wow:

Or to be trade bait.

Cap Room

Phil is getting a Big 3 next year and use the bird rights to go over the Tax threshold to keep Shumpert and Larkin

Definitely a possibility.

As far as JR goes. I don't really feel the need to stay committed to him for another year for another 6 million. I'm not sure he'd fetch much more than that on the open market from a decent team. I'd rather have the roster/cap freedom. But there are people committed to JR's talent despite his production/results. I can see why it would be controversial within the fan base to trade him for somebody like Copeland... but I doubt non-knick-fans would blink at a move like that.

Yo can we stop with this if Timmy develops nonsense I mean goddamn this dude has been on the floor so little but has been so bad on Defense it is so noticeable it is scary, did we see the end of half or the quarter where dude didn't even force kemba to pick up the ball til halfcourt and then got taken straight to the rack like if he wasn't there .

I mean goddamn they attack him worst then they ever did Novak.

Yeah man it was so noticeable that I dropped timmy from my fantasy league and picked up shump because I see Shump getting the majority of minutes. I can't see timmy getting minutes the way he plays now. He's not playing good man defense and he's not even playing good team defense. And your right the scouting report on him must say "can't defend" because as soon as he hits the court the other teams guards go right at him.

Idk how I feel about that JR for Copeland + Watson talk.

Don't forget the trade can't happen until December 15th and I am ok with it. JR is still a knuckle head. Luckily the refs didn't call the foul he did to lance at the end of the game yesterday. But that was just JR doing what JR does..... being a bonehead

. I like how JR'S playing now and he is better than cope and Watson but the knicks need space to maneuver next year. Marc shouldn't be their only goal, the FA market next year has a couple of steals in it.

I figure the Knicks want more space because while they have enough money already to get Gasol. If they squeeze the cap room they could make a offer a large offer for one of those young RFA on the market.

The beauty of that is the cap is going up next let year too. Even if the knicks give Shump a decent deal and sign 2 good/great F'S they will have money to go after whatever missing piece is needed for the roster in 2016.

:dwillhuh: I'm confused at the hate jr gets . Even when he's playing good people want him traded away ? Timmy is too one dimensional at the moment it looks like for the triangle and I want to win games if we can

Whats there to be confused about? Last night he played like a buffoon. The box score might not show it, but basketball fans know. He had careless turnovers, played matador D (as clyde would say) then glared at his teammates like he didnt just let dude walk right by him. He took several patented JR Chucks as well, bricking almost all of them except in the first quarter. Remember when the Knicks were up 15? They then put in JR Smith and the team proceeded to blow the lead in a few minutes. It aint no coincidence. In the final minutes of the game I was hoping to god the ball didnt wind up in JR's hands. Fact is, you, me, his coach or his teammates dont know what the fukk he will do when the ball is in his hands.

JR is an enigma. Hes talented, but nobody, not even Phil Jackson, not a contract year, nothing will ever make him stop being an idiot. We have had way too many ups and downs with him, enough with the bipolar shyt. Let Shump and Tim handle the 2, its about time to take the training wheels off them

And for those that are saying "Copeland sucks why trade JR for him?" Its because JR is such a toxic asset nobody wants him and will not offer real value for him. An expiring deal is the best you can get unless Phil really is some kind of mastermind

One of president Phil Jackson’s big decisions this season is whether to trade J.R. Smith, and the club had recent conversations with the Pacers regarding ex-Knick Chris Copeland, according to a league source.

The 6-foot-9 Copeland, whom the Pacers signed in July 2013, has an expiring contract after bolting the Knicks for a two-year, $6 million deal, so he wouldn’t affect their 2015 cap space.

Smith, meanwhile, can opt out of the $6.4 million he has coming in 2015-16, but there’s still a chance he will wait to be a free agent until 2016 when the salary cap is expected to rise dramatically. The Knicks are trying to open up as much cap space as possible and would benefit if Smith opts out or if they trade him for an expiring contract.

no point of getting rid of jr until next year
he's the only guard we have on our team besides melo who can create his own shot
and we saw how big he played in the clevland game
hes a knuckle head but we cant trade him just to trade him
ppl put too much emphasis on his attitude sometimes
the kid can play
