Damn I had no idea Charles County was majority black. I got a little bit of family down there and they are PAID. But I only been out that way once or twice. But like I always say ain’t no state better to be black in than MD

I just re-watched “The Wire” for the fourth time, and if it’s as real and true of a show as many people claim, then I don’t see how this can be true.
:patrice:

shyt made Baltimore, Maryland (and Maryland in general) look as bad and as corrupt as UKKKraine.
:hubie:

I’ve been to DC a few times. It isn’t necessarily Maryland, but might as well be. Nice city. Never been to B-More though.

No offense breh, but you can't mention inner city Baltimore and PG/Charles County in the same sentence. I guess you maybe aren't fully familiar with the region? Maryland is real diverse and even has country redneck places like Calvert County, Eastern Shore, and Frederick (outside the city).

The Wire has literally zero to do with PG and especially Charles.

Baltimore County and even SE DC are not PG, Charles County. The western parts of PG against DC has higher crime but PG, especially towards the south is a different world.

Read this AMA thread on PG county and it covers the differences as well as the good/bad of PG county pretty well.

Is it true most of the well to do Black folks in AA are out by BWI an Ft. Meade (Hanover, Jessup, etc.) or are they all over the place?

I'm not from the area so I can't speak with any sort of authority or aware of the local nuances but from what I've heard black Marylanders with long money are in Baltimore County, Howard, County, Anne Arundel County, if they're not in Bethesda or the District proper. PG County seems to be a no fly zone. Reason being apparently is that many of the families work in the District but send their kids to private school in Baltimore so Howard and AA are the happy medium - get kids to school in Baltimore then head to work in DC. PG seems to be out of the way for those that live that lifestyle.

I remember reading in OKOP how old native DC folks were not really receptive to PG. Obviously, things change because PG has become very popular. But it seems with native black Marylanders, it's still true. PG is rarely even mentioned in conversation and if it is, it's by folks originally from DC.

I can't tell you where exactly in AA, it was just noted to me that AA and Howard Counties is where the actual money is at. Annapolis for sure was mentioned. And Highland Beach and Arundel by the Bay were old historic black professional Baltimore beachfront enclaves and they're both in AA so they may be all over?

Looks like @Problematic Pat can give more specifics.

Don’t get me wrong. Baltimore is a fukked up city especially in certain areas. But don’t let a show dictate your view of the whole state. And all of Baltimore ain’t like that either. Maryland is the wealthiest state in the country and one of the blackest and a lot of that wealth comes from us

I BEEN saying this. MD is the shyt. You can do really well here in the Baltimore/DC metro area. Baltimore has a bad reputation but there’s a large black middle class here especially in the burbs
My nephew goes to Howard and he loves the area. He spends a lot of time in Maryland too. I can just tell that he wants to live there permanently.

Fair enough. I am not from the area and have no dog in the fight. What you say about old money Blacks and PG County reminds me of how some old money Blacks in Atlanta though about South DeKalb (where I grew up) in the 80s or 90s. All the new middle class moved there and made a previous White county Black (and #2 in terms of income/wealth behind PG) but a lot of the old money was down near Cascade, south of ATL and sent their kids to the private schools outside of DeKalb and near their commute into the city.

Aint that much wealth out here, just a lot of Black folks with good jobs. Mainly GS jobs, from the 80s and 90s. Bought homes in the 90s cheap, now those house have quadrupled in value so they're seating nice.

But that word wealth isn't it.
Ain’t wealth tied to your assets and isn’t owning a home an asset? If a bunch of homeowners have had their houses quadruple in value isn’t that a sign of wealth?

This is PG county in a nutshell. Outsiders hear ‘people with good jobs and good houses’ and automatically think black wealth :blessed:

Negative. There’s a lot between struggling and ‘wealth’.

I’m not seeing anyone mentioend PG county taxes. You aren’t talking PG/DMV real estate if you don’t mention PG property taxes. It’s a MAJOR factor. As someone who bought in PG in 2017, my property has gone up and *might* double in thr next few years (especially if the Commanders announce they’re re-doing Fedex field)…

however with that increase in value comes an already high tax rate that’s now based on higher valuation and higher mortgage. My fixed rate mortgage has gone up $600 in 5 years bc of the taxes .

So it’s a great place to flip, but just be aware that if you want to *stay* here, the tax rate is so high—higher than any dc or any other county in VA or MD—-it plays a part.
