Peter Rosenberg hating on these R&B battles is proof that you cant trust rap opinions from this dude

At some point he needs to realize he's old and "white" in a game that's really for younger black people.

two strikes right there.

3rd strike is he's whack.

Every year he seems like he gets more and more detached from it.

doesn't necessarily have to be a white thing,

theres ALOT of black rap fans that are on that same type of time as well. theyre usually easy to spot, even when they try to pump-fake.

some of them are in this thread piling on. lets not pretend that this board is such a hot spot for r&b talk.

I noticed that a lot of cacs that are “real hip hop” heads don’t like rnb. Which is ironic because it’s one of the elements of rap
They can't understand the rhythm's in R&B .... rap is quite literal about the beat.

R&B is more subtle and they can't connect.

Plus, that would require them to love black people. :mjpls:

Not just black attitude :mjpls: :sas2:

@trillanova am I on to something here? :lupe:

I've never met a black person who didn't like R&B.

Like, ever.

Nothing wrong with being white, but being white in hiphop and a "influencer" mean you gonna get heavy scrutiny... And on to that being old and out of touch... And constantly having whack takes.... Yeah

Biggest problems with Rosenberg and people like him are:
1) He’s dismissive of anything he doesn’t think is good
2) Thinks only what he’s into is “true hip hop”, and swears he knows everything about it...though is often proved wrong
3) He hides behind that cheesy “I’m just a backpacker fan” narrative to be condescending
4) He’s just a natural cornball

I remember a time when r&b was kinda openly hated on by many hip-hop heads, not just white ones. My memory is hazy but I remember hiphop forums and mags up in arms about Mobb Deep doing songs with r&b groups. Nowadays, you only see this hate kept alive by older white hiphop fans

These ppl were fools back then, because there would be no hip hop without soul.

That's a different issue. Not wanting to mix genres is different than hating on r&b. Rap dudes didn't fukk with Michael Jackson? If anything, hardcore rap stans didn't like trendy new r&b at the time but respected/enjoyed the established artists from Luther to MJ to Anita Baker.

Regardless though...Rosenberg wasn't even a hardcore hip hop fan during that time period of the early/mid 90s right? I'll give him props for giving so many underground or "independent" artists shine but even that kinda looks funny in the light to a degree. He was all on the TDE and Joey Badass bandwagons because he knew they'd blow up, who was managing them, etc. He was once on the Drake bandwagon for the same reason...until Drake stopped answering texts/calls. Meanwhile he had jack shyt to say about Griselda until Interscope got involved. He ignored Roc Marciano for years. Picking winners and losers is nothing new to hip hop, especially from the DJ and producer chair. But if you're gonna claim to be a hardcore hip hop dude, stop telling me you love major rap releases while having jack shyt to say about noteworthy independent releases. He could release a yearly "best rap album of the year" list and it would almost certainly be full of mainstream shyt because he's not out here listening to Mach Hommy, Ka, etc like that.
