Those battles weren't wack. Far from it. The best take away was that many were educated on the catalogs of participants. Just last week, The Dream was dismissed as not being the artist The Weeknd is. As I pointed out in that thread, The Dream literally broke Rihanna and gave Beyonce some of her biggest hits. I'm sure after that battles, people walked away with a greater appreciation for those artists as writers because the writing was their bread and butter and being an artist was icing on the cake.

R&B radio been doing battle of the band's programming since the 1960s. You can turn on an oldie station around 9PM and hear a Temptations vs Delphonics type battle in damn near every state lmao.
