For 4 years I was doing field tech work going around fixing ATMs and blood typing instruments in various hospitals and banks. Between the overtime, the travel, dragging around a heavy ass toolbox and the rude customers I literally hated my life.

Now I have a cozy coding job where I work from home 3 days out of the week and life is awesome now. You could double my salary and I still wouldn’t do that manual labor BS again. :camby:

Former HVAC tech here. shyt is tough on the body and the hours are long. We had mandatory on call shifts that rotated with coworkers. Driving all over the state for calls and staying late to fix stuff. Hard to get your foot in the door and the senior techs are dikks. Slow months so you’re not making money and a lot of places don’t offer insurance. Still happy I have my certifications just in case I need something to fall back on.

Now im a firefighter which is just as hard physically and do engineering work for a school district. Not sure what the future holds for me career wise ultimately
A man who has lived multiple lives :ohhh:

Facts you can make a lot of money working blue collar but there’s a trade off. It’s blood money at times. Working in all types of hazardous, dangerous, polluted environments. Meanwhile my corporate friends are sitting at their laptop drinking tea going to happy hour, never missing their kids soccer games. Go to college people. Robots are going to take these jobs anyway

What is ETF and ETU?

When I worked for TNT Express I joined the European Transport workers union/federation

We were still apart of the EU then

The ETF is the Electrical Trade Union for UK even all our electronics now have 3 marks of compliance.

The UK standard EU standard and Internatioal standard

Our grand parents and parents worked these labor jobs in the hope that their kids one day could get a nice cushy white collar job.

If a trade is your best option go for it. but understand its not aiming for the top. College grads are the most successful group of people in the world on average,
