My Pops Forever RIP
If Zion was just a project, I would understand taking it slow, but he's already grown into an All Star ready to win. Look at Luka right now. He's a young star just like Zion but he already has drama in his organization in year 3. Don't assume you have a star forever just because he's young. Players have more power than ever and trade demands can come out of nowhere.

The Pelicans have more flexibility while Zion's on a rookie deal. With all the picks they have, they should be hunting for a star in the offseason. The Pelicans don't have forever to rebuild. Zion's going to be in his 3rd year with his 3rd coach. That's not building that right way. Don't wait until it turns into an Anthony Davis situation.
By that logic, don't trade AD. Zion is only one guy.

The star hunting aspect is harder now than before for this reason: where are the stars?

While NO has a bunch of picks, they have a bunch of future Bucks and Lakers firsts. Tough to see those increase in value.

EDIT: the irony of the Luka comparison is that they agreed with you and went all in early on Porzingis and that has backfired on them big time.

The Mavs traded for an injury prone big man. That was their mistake. Looking for a star to build around Luka was a good idea though.

The Pelicans have their own picks, the Lakers picks, and Bucks picks. They absolutely can hunt for a star. Stars are traded almost every year. The teams who get the stars are usually the most aggressive.

The Pelicans can start building to win now, or they can take it slow and end up trading Zion just like they traded Chris Paul and Anthony Davis.

Edit: The Mavs just got rid of their GM. The timing couldn't be more perfect:mjlol:. Exactly what I was saying. You don't play around with young Superstars. Luka is in year 3 forcing the Mavs to make drastic moves. The Pelicans have to start winning with Zion now.

David Griffin panicking lol. Built the worst roster around, kind of unfair to SVG but coaches go first.

Griffin is on the clock

Don't complain about Zion wanting a trade to the Lakers in a few years if you're not going to hire the right coach/place the right pieces around him

Now trade Lonzo to the chi and get absolutely nothing in return to continue the failure this organization wishes to obtain
