He was never a good hire to begin with. I do give him credit for unlocking Zion’s ability as a ball handler and point forward in the NBA though.

The team is constructed very odd. I’m of the opinion BI probably needs to be moved. He’s a chunker that is really a second maybe even a third option on a good team, but he thinks he’s a one and he really isn’t that guy. A lot of games Zion would be cooking and BI wouldn’t pass him the ball in favor of chunking mid range bricks and 3 pointers.

You also have to pair Zion with a big that can rebound well and play good help side defense because Zion is an undersized power forward with average length and wingspan and it shows on the defensive end. Jaxon Hayes has shown glimpses, but I’m not sure if he’s a starter or backup in today’s NBA. Shooters (which we didn’t have outside of Reddikk until we got rid of him) would have helped and opened up Zion’s driving lanes too.

Whoever this hire is better be the right guy though because we are on the clock with Zion. We have had good enough talent to make the playoffs as 6-8 seed the last 2 years and haven’t gotten it done.

I’d bring Zion in and get his input on who he wanted as well.

People can talk about our front office and it is iffy, but most of these elite guys only want to go to one of 3 or 4 teams in free agency. I think that shyt is goofy as hell how most of them only want to play for one of the LA teams and Brooklyn or NY especially when they can have off season homes in those places. To each his own though.

Only part I don't agree with. Elite guys will go anywhere, its just a few guys that pick those destinations because they see those teams have a shot at the title. AD wasn't going to LA if Lebron didn't go. PG went to LA because of Kawhi who left a chip because LA is home. Kyrie went to BK because he didn't like the Celtics anymore and wanted to be closer to home (Jersey). KD came because Kyrie was there.

A coaching change is good but they're still not ready to contend. They should be looking hard for another star while Zion is in his rookie deal.

The Pelicans have a ton of picks from the Anthony Davis trade and the Jrue Holiday trade. They're one of the few teams that have plenty of assets to trade for a star like Beal or Lillard (if available).

After year 2 of this, are they supposed to?

Everyone is in such a rush to wanna see Zion in these big games on a great team, they're forgetting they're still in a rebuild.

This thread (and this postseason) really highlights that many of y'all just don't wanna see some teams attempt to be good.

He was never a good fit. I can't imagine him motivating this generation of athletes. Time to stick to broadcasting.

If Zion was just a project, I would understand taking it slow, but he's already grown into an All Star ready to win. Look at Luka right now. He's a young star just like Zion but he already has drama in his organization in year 3. Don't assume you have a star forever just because he's young. Players have more power than ever and trade demands can come out of nowhere.

The Pelicans have more flexibility while Zion's on a rookie deal. With all the picks they have, they should be hunting for a star in the offseason. The Pelicans don't have forever to rebuild. Zion's going to be in his 3rd year with his 3rd coach. That's not building the right way. Don't wait until it turns into an Anthony Davis situation.
