logic is what if,..
they used payola for locksmith, effectively.
or louis logic, was able to garner payola during the sinomatic era.
what i find funny is,...
the artist they continue to support with payola.
are fake alternative based emo ripoff's from the hiphopinfinity.com era, in scope/direction/look/marketing/material, etc.
plus, it won't sell because emo really only generated for one act in that realm, from a grassroots level.
which was more about timing and slug confronting certain parties for faking jax.
these new artist are not original or prolific enough in their weirdness.
to become a new slug,..
nor, do they have the cultural connection or the beginning grassroots marketing company that brought slug to the grand stage eventually.
plus, eventually became the industry marketing company marker.
when, it came to a how to approach.
which you won't be able to copy because the division and glass ceiling were not shattered.
to allow another artist to draw.
as it did for atmosphere in 1996, with overcast and the death of biggie and pac.
plus, the website attention of early internet darling sites does not exist anymore.
to trickle down to an artist.
the same way the artist like mos def, to tony d, eminem did with hiphopsite.com.
to eventually sum shyt i wrote breaking fifty cent, to fard's hhi.com.

I remember hiphopinfinity...they hated my guts. I was the kid that ripped up Adeem outside of a show about 13 years ago...they put the vid up...strong hate for black rappers.

I agree with you. I went to college park at the time and follow it all go down. IBut he really started "gaining traction" around summer 2011. Actually, I need to make a correction to my previous statement, the show with Phil Ade happened fall/winter of 2011. I ran into him a bunch during that time. His producer 6ix went to the same high school as me, but he was a year older.
I always suspected that his team was cooking his youtube views like Mac Miller had done. Then he probably leveraged those falsified youtube views to a record deal with Def Jame sometime early 2012, this was probably made easier if what @Christopher browns said is true about his uncle working for universal.

Here is proof that payola is still all over the music business.
Recently I released a video for a new song from my High Elders project with Auxiliary Phoenix to promote our new "Forest Of Pencils" album which is out December 9th on Irish label Little League Records. Here is the video for "Surrounded By Lights"
I sent the video to several music blogs and the response was incredible! Hot Press Magazine called the video, "Stunning... Eye-popping... Fabulous!" However, among these blogs I emailed were several who directly asked me for money just to post the video! This type of payola is increasingly common online these days. Many of those payola blogs are just automated content retweeted by cheap twitterbots and of no real value to an aspiring artist because real people don't actually check the content. Here I've posted a few of the emails I got in response to the video just to give other artists and music fans an idea of what its like to be independent in today's music business and the sorts of predatory folks who will try and juice you, many of them openly admit they are using twitterbots to promote your content:

Yeah they actually did cook the views. Remember when you used to be able to view stats? All his stats were BLOCKED before nikkas even knew to do that when they cooked views. His mans told me, too.
